Wear the styles that are in and make you feel comfortable - but shop at stores that sell age appropriate! I'm 51 and made the decision to never wear skirts/dresses again unless I'm going to a formal event (like a wedding). At the office I often wear nice black slacks and sharp looking career jackets. At home and about town it's bootcut jeans, t-shirt & comfortable hoodie, or sweater sets. No more heals either! Flats for me from now on. Another important thing for you to do is to have a make-up consult because we certainly can't wear the same make-up we once did (lol)! Keep your hair cut and highlighted (if you wish) on a regular basis. Mostly... enjoy each and every day. It's a blessing for us now and every day is a new day!

The What Not To Wear ladies on the BBC show have helped me alot. I am 40 and wear a size 2-4 because i work out...I also dress like i am 25 instead of 40. I think if you feel like you look good you can wear whatever you want. Dressing conservatively at work is best though, you don't want any office gossip just because you dress sexy. The low rise jeans that show thongs are a no-no now that's what I read in a fashion magazine. I hope this helps. Have Fun!

I'm 48, 5'3 and on the plump side too, but I don't think what you wear has anything to do with your having a mid-life crisis. As far as your wardrobe goes, I think you should wear what makes you comfortable. I mean I don't think the short little belly shirts are appropriate for women our age and size, but we don;t have to dress like old grannys either. I like a stylish pair of jeans , a nice t-shirt and a cute tweed jacket or blazer. To accessorize I wear a bunch of multi colored bangles and some stylish earrings. Top it off with some suede boots and a big leather hobo bag and you're looking great !!

I think a woman should avoid cheap looking clothes and styles. No belly shirts or super low rise jeans or any clothing in cheap, chintzy material. You want to look classy and feminine, not sleazy.
A 50 yr old woman also does not have to dress dowdy. You can look fabulous in jeans, boots, cute ballet flats, sweaters, cardigans and camisoles, button up the front tailored shirts, etc. A great blazer/jacket can also look so classy even a dark wash denim blazer that can take you from daytime casual to a night out.
I am personally a fan of NY&Co. They have lots of great clothes and accessories ranging from casual to work-wear, and their prices are very reasonable. Also, they have a really great selection of sizes including petite, tall, average, short, etc. A lot of their clothes also have a touch of stretch in the fabric so they fit really well and are comfy too.
It's so worth it to find clothes that make you look and feel great.

Just dress stylish, but not trashy. None of those sweatshirts with teddy bears on them either. You're 50 not 80. No elastic pants either. Shop in the Misses section of the department store. It's cute younger clothes, but not too old and not like your trying to look young.

Advice: don't shop where people 25 and under are shopping, and don't shop where people 60 and older are shopping. Unless it's a department store. You should deffinately look into Ann Taylor Loft. It's classy, and not too expensive.

Sweaters and dress pants usually look nice on women in your age group.
Also, since you're a little on the smaller side, I would not suggest wearing capri pants.
(and of corse, shoes with a little heal)

You should wear what you feel best in. I think everyone should feel good about their body and what they wear, no matter what age! If you want to wear a tank-top and short-shorts, and they look great on you, then go for it! If you want to wear a sweat suit, be my guest! However, if you would like to know, my friends mom has just turned 53 and she has a killer style.
She shops a stores like Belks and Tanner Lee. Her shirts are a gauzy/silkly material and she wears pants that are one shade lighter or darker then the shirts. She wears pretty earrings, and the finished picture is sophisticated, flirty and downright hot!

tailored and sophisticated.... good luck shopping. Most of the styles are geared to the younger generation. Petite Sophisticate is a great store if you have one near you. High-end department stores carry more of the business type clothes... as long as you steer clear of the Junior Petite section. I'm only 5ft... so I spend a considerable amount of time looking for the right fit. J.Jill is another possibility. good luck
