I could never grasp that right wing concept. As if piss-poor insurgents are going to leave their goats behind, hop on a jet with their AK-47's in carry on, and wreak havoc on the US one car bomb at a time.

If they could, it would be far more effective than what they are doing now in Iraq. And as 9/11 showed us, terrorists aren't stupid.

What makes you think common street thugs in Iraq (99% without passports even) are going to come streaming into New York with tons of explosives if we don't indulge them in Iraq?

And what is the precedent behind this assumption? Who was the last Middle Eastern insurgent goat farmer/ex-cop to set off a bomb in the West?

yupchagee -

you make me laugh. The 9/11 crowd were educated, professional class Muslims. Not street goons. Many like them are already here. And they do nothing. The Falluja rabble can't even afford to buy a pack of cigarettes. Let alone make it to the US.

Grow up please.... And spell Muslim correctly next time!

yupchagee - also, you said we are fighting "MOSLEMS" which by the way are 96% of the Iraqi population. I thought we went there to free them? Or did I miss the last memo?

It's absolutely ridiculous and just another silly talking point. The National Intelligence Estimate clearly stated that we have created more terrorists because of this unnecessary war and the terrorist infrastructure is completely decentralized. That completely negates the idea of "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" because it means there isn't really an "over there" to begin with. These people are everywhere, and we contributed to that. It used to be there might be isolated cells in specific countries with a main objective. But now there can be several cells in different countries, that are in no way connected to each other and that simple fact makes it harder to find and bring to justice the very people we're supposed to be fightin "over there". In short it's just a term used to calm the easily influenced. All they would have to do is read the report from the 16 U.S. intelligence agencies to know that the phrase is blatantly false.

We aren't even fighting Al-Qaeda in Iraq. We are fighting Sunnis and Shiites. These people don't want to come over here to hurt us. They want to rule their own country the way they want. They could give a rat's bottom about America. They just want an Iraq that their respective sides can control. That's just another example of how the statement is b.s.

Another point I'd like to make is that when we went to war with the people actually responsible for 9-11 there wasn't an exponential increase in terrorist recruitment. And that is because everyone in the world saw it as justifiable. The terrorist had no rallying cry. But Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11 and wasn't an immediate threat to the U.S.. Going to war in Iraq gave terrorists the rallying cry they needed to make us look even worse in a region that has hated us since the creation of Israel and the 1953 coup in Iran. So if we really wanted to keep America safe, isn't it reasonable to assume we wouldn't go into a country that posed no threat to us?

Wake up. We are at war with IRAN, not Iraqi sheep-herders. There are insurgents flooding into Iraq from Iran, as well as several other Arab/Persian/Muslim countries.

There is a call to Jihad all over the Muslim world recruiting fighters to go to Iraq and fight the well-trained, well-armed, well-armored United States military. If that were not happening, then many of the same people prepared to leave their countries to go fight us in Iraq would be coming HERE to fight us HERE.

If you haven't noticed, there haven't been any more successful terrorist attacks in the USA since 9/11. It's not because Bin Laden suddenly became Mr. Nice Guy. Jihadists are at war with us whether or not we are at war with them. However, they will fight an active enemy (us in Iraq) first. In the absence of an active enemy, they will find a passive enemy to attack (the infidels, you and me, here in the USA).

I hope that helped you to understand what the "right wing" is trying to tell you.

I think a lot of people wouldn't mind a little close to home action. X military guys would like to knock off a few.

You think deer hunting is a popular hunting sport? Bring a few Goat herders with RPG's over here and watch the enthusiasm.

Forget the green zone bring those Co** SucK**s to Texas.

One grain of truth in that pile of bilge, terrorists, unlike you, are not stupid. Well trained in Afghanistan and well financed by Iran and Saudi Arabia they can come here and do all kinds of nasty things as we have seen already. Perhaps if a bomb goes off next to you you may actually realize that, yes those goat farmers hate our guts and dont mind dying if they can take some of us with them.

Well for one, there were multiple bombings not to long back in the UK. Two, our involvement over there in Afghanistan and in Iraq is doing a lot of good with keeping them off our soil. Their leaders are busy trying to plan how to kill American troops that are in their region instead of going overseas to do it. Not to mention we are bombing, killing and capturing a whole lot of them.

Nobody ever said they were going to all come to America and start doing car bombs and all of that stuff. It goes way higher then the pawns doing the ground fighting when we mention about fighting terrorism over there instead of over here.

My question for you is, do you have a better idea? Would sitting around waiting for another 9/11 to happen suit you?

The assumption is if they are having to spend their money buying guns ,bombs and ammunition there they won't have the money to support terrorist cells here.Suicidal people come in more forms than poor.Atta was a doctor.

what you are pointing out is that the whole thing is a farce. we have a better chance of canada attacking us then Iraq.

and also if somebody really wanted to attack us would it be that hard? i'm no terrorist, but do you think they are watching every bus, every school, every building, every ferry boat, every street corner, ect, it's not plausable to protect the entire country from a threat like that.

also the fighting in Iraq is not al quida terrorists, they are iraqis sunnis' vs. shia. it is a religous civil war. it's not like the shias are trying to help us stop the evil sunnis from spawning terrorists to bomb the west. they hate us equally, but iraq has never attacked the west. they might attack Israel, but that is a different storey and that is not america. Al quida is only in the country becuase we collasped the infrostructure and created anarchy and a power vacum that allowed organization that hate the us to set up shop to take shots against us. but that's on the back burner. when we had a civil war in this country the south wasn't considered terrorists'.
there are al-quida operating in Iraq to attack the us there, but only becuase they realize the oppurtunie and moved in there after saddams fell.

two points, I dont think you want them but here it is anyway. MONEY. every dollar they spend there they cant send to people here. OIL. the more access to oil without oversight the more money they have to then send over here. It takes money to fight a war (see our military buget) they have the most needed commodity in the world and with that brings any amount of money they want. There are tons of countries that will sell weapons for the right price.

that's a b.s. sound bite used to justify the war. does anyone possibly believe all the terrorists in the world are in Iraq right now fighting against our troops. If they do, they should run for President. The last guy to believe that, ran for President and won.......

.. it means that somebody is using it for an excuse to make money with war ... thats a new concept yeah ... and its a natural thought for americans to believe terrorists are crawling out of the woodwork and paddling over here in canoes as we speak ... the news tells them everyone is out to get them all the time ... lock ur doors and turn ur neibour in and give up ur rights so u can be protected...
