Our society has become so overwhelmed with political correctness, that it becomes almost hilarious when these kind of scenarios come up. Rarely do you find anyone who is going to be offended with the word Caucasian .
I suppose that if a person really sought to look for things to be critical about, it really isn't hard to find an issue just in the normal course of events of everyday living .
I have known some Italians that I had occasion to associate with in a number of different situations both with work and socially.
In all those situations I don't remember ever having anybody comment one way or the other about being Italian or Caucasian.
Maybe it was just because the subject never came up, or else that never was high priority to us.

There is an acual location called the Caucasus Mountains, it is in the Georgia/Azerbijain area of Central Asia. People from there are actual Caucasians. Generally, "white people" are not from there. The actual term comes from a guy named Johann Friedrich Blumenbach, who broke people up into 5 different groups in the early 1800s: Caucasian race, Mongolian race, Ethiopian race, American race, Malay race
All of the other terms have been done away with due to being inappropriate or just plain incorrect, so why hasn't "Caucasian"? Why should people of European descent be content with being labeled, let alone MISLABELED?

I guess the thing is whites are told to use the phrase African American. Mean while we are referred to as WHITE or Caucasian. If we use the term BLACK we are not be PC. I have never been to the country caucasuia. so why not use the term Italian American. or better yet how about just American.

I have never know anyone to be offended by the term Caucasian. It is more correct than using white. Really our skin isn't white, so if either term is going to offend someone it should be white. I have no idea why your co-worker would be offended. Maybe they don't udnerstand what Caucasian means?

No, I don't get offended. I don't expect people to guess what I am. Caucasian is a general term and is a lot easier to use especially instead of listing "Italian, German, Irish, Swedish, etc" on forms and the such. Many "caucasians" are a mix of a lot of those anyways!

white ar eusually not offended by the term caucasian since its just a designation for the caucasian race which is at the origin of the white population. Usually blacks don't get offended when they are called so. It all depends on your intelligence

No... If you call black people African Americans, you call white people Caucasian. If you call African Americans black, you call Caucasians white.
African American and Caucasian are just official names for races. No one should get offended, but they want to chang 'African American' because not all black people are African. Your co-worker probably just heard you wrong. He probably thought you said Asian.

I had never heard of the term "caucasian" before I moved to the USA. I think it's weird. Caucasian sounds like I am from the "caucasus" and isn't that somewhere in Russia?
I am "German" or "Italian" or "Spanish"...I find that more appropiate than saying I am "caucasian"...
Weird term....Is this term used only in the USA??? I wonder?

:))))) this is crazy, what is this politicallly correct thing coming to? no, white people are not generally offended by the term caucasian. probably the italian guy got it confused (he may have thought that caucasians are only russians - ie living near the caucasian mountains?? - it's just a guess..)

You'd have to personally ask a white person what they think. In my opinion, I wouldn't think they'd be offended by this term. I feel that the example you gave... "I'm not Caucasian, I'm Italian", was said in a matter-of-fact way, not because he/she was taking it personally.
