Would jeans and a sport coat work?

My vote would be slim fit, flat front pants (grey or brown) with a fitted premium shirt from the Gap, t shirt underneath (Gap makes good ones with Stretch now) dressed up with a blazer and dress shoes
if you can get away with jeans, go with a dressier, dark wash.

I've been to a few office parties that were Semi-formal and by that they meant slacks and a button shirt. No jeans. I think it is safer to wear slacks than jeans anyway. It looks just as good if not better and you won't be over dressed (unless you wear a tux). With jeans you run the chance of being under dressed which is uncomfortable to say the least.

if ya dress up with jeans wear dark jeans! you could do dark jeans black shoes and dark gray sweater. you could do the coat if you wanted to but i think a nice dark sweater should be fine. Maybe a nice jacket over the sweater too... Have fun!
ok if its SEMI formal then jeans are FINE!!! you dont have to go with slacks just because it has the word 'formal' in it....jeans are perfectly fine!!! all they are trying to stay away from is nasty wripped jeans or tight clothes or something...but like i said, if you go with a dark dark washed jean, those look plenty formal enough for a christmas party. i mean c'mon its a WORK xmas party!! not a business meeting!!!

if it's semi-formal, stay away from jeans. jeans would work if it would be causal. go for dress pants and a suit or sport coat. wear a nice button up shirt and a tie.
