Don;t know about being best friends before being a couple but it sure helps afterwards - my partner is my best friend.
But I'm guesssing you are young and so I think it is a good first step to be friends - after all that is all being a couple is - freinds with exclusive privileges!
And you become friends with a guy exactly the same way as you become friends with a girl - by having something in common - be it a band you like, a shared interest, laughing at the same things. Just try talking to him and see what happens. Good luck.

Well that depends on how you define "couple." I don't think it's necessary to be "best" friends or really even friends. You can become a couple by dating exclusively. From there you can judge what kind of friends you really are and whether you have the capacity to become more.

My wife and I realised we were perfect for each other on our second date (we were pretty sure after the first one) and married about 18 months later ... 22 years ago.
You don't need to be best friends before you become a couple, but you should become best friends pretty quickly.

You dont need to be best friends with some one before you become a couple, you may find that you will become bestfriends once you have been in a realtionphip with him.

well i think after the honeymoon period is over however long that takes the thing that should still bond u together is the companionship and friendship. i know it doesn`t start that way in most cases but i do think a relationship started by friendship has a much greater chance of long term survival

Not necessarily. most were friends before they were couple but broke after marriage...some were not knowing each other before marriage and they are happily living a married life
so it all depends on how the partners feel about each other

no you dont need to be friends just go and start a conversation and it will go from there. it may develope into friendship and something more or it might not but the gamble is worth it!

i had that love at first sight thing, didn't even know his name and knew he was the one, 9 years on we have 2 kids together and are still together and the best of Friends.
