I read recently that if you pinch the skin between your thumb and forefinger it will stop tears. I've tried it and it does seem to help. The bigger question I would ask is why are my emotions so close to the surface? I think being empathetic is a wonderful trait and a strength, so long as you aren't suffering because of it. But if you cry because you are identifying too much with others, that is not healthy and you might think about exploring this with a therapist.

Well, may be your crying" is associated with soem nostalagic happning from the past. Many a times we supress out emotions and do not let it out with the fear of being called a sissy or to emotional according to the steryotypical Society. Please try to understand yourself, first what makes you cry, and incidents that happen in the presnet situation may have soem connection iwth things that must have happend in the past that hurt you. Sit quitely in a room and think about all the things, try to analyse it if its worth crying for or worth keeping the baggage for so long. Also maintain a diary or a journal , and write all the painful events , its like a friend taht you can share your thoughts and emotions. it makes you feel lighter and fresh. It works. Also secondly its about self esteam, Do you give others the right to make you cry all the time? As a human being what have you done for yourself when you cannot even protect your self from the scrutiny. Always tell your self no one has the right to make you cry. Its you who decides for your self. please i think you need to clear your emotional baggae that has been pending for years. Life is beautiful, its a phase with time you wil know how stupid you were to cry for something that wasnt worth it. Always remember soon everything will pass and good tiem will come. About the nails... you are trying to supress your internal pain by hurting yourself by pressing hard with your nail. To ease a pain, causing another pain is not a solution.

This has to do with emotional trauma and is an avoidance tactic of a learned behavior. Look into professional assistance to balance the wounding. I am the same way. Although I don't have any suggestions for you I can say that you are not alone. It can be kind of embarrassing sometimes but just try to remember that if someone thinks low of you just because you are crying they are pretty low themselves.
I hope this helps and Good Luck with controlling your tears.

Sometimes we need to cryto get it all out. But if it is at a time where you feel embarassed to do it, then you may want to pray and ask God to deliver you from your tears so you can get on with your day.

Start thinking about something else when you're sad. People who are "cry babies" dwell on their sad things too much. You just need to become more of an optimist =)

Bite your arm. Either it will hurt so much you will stop yourself from crying or if you are in public everyone will think you are off your rocker so you will start laughing uncontrollably (they will still think you are off your rocker but at least you will be having more fun!)

you know those tearducts that always seem to flare up with allergies?you know the one located in the middle of your face on either side of the bridge of your nose? well sort of"pinch" them the same way you would if you pinching your nose after smelling something bad. this should help.
