because the masks that we wear and the walls that we erect around ourselves dissolve in an instant in a state of vulnerability and that's scary.
because by being vulnerable we are letting others see our true selves, and the fear of rejection and/or acceptance for that 'real' self is scary.
because being vulnerable feels like we are no longer in control of our emotions and actions, it means being dependent on others and needing their validation for everything. and that's really scary

but, when it does happen...it can also feel liberating in a way :)

I wasn't aware being vulnerable was scary. I agree though being vulnerable can create a discomfort. On the flip side, there are experiences which wouldn't be possible without vulnerability. This is a big can of worms which needs some sorting out.
Vulnerability can be divided into subgroups; naivete, ignorance, social development, recessive traits, the list goes on.
I would venture to hypothesize that without knowing the root cause of why someone is vulnerable, the situation could produce fear and become scary in a manner of speaking.
I think there is a natural reaction of fear of the unknown. The inability to respond to a situation probably is uncomfortable for many. This can produce a fear that others may perceive you as inept and declare you a social misfit. Social classification, especially during adolescence, is an important rite of passage which can determine where we wind up in the social pecking order.
Vulnerability can be an advantage in some situations. Without a pre-defined response, people can have a fresh palette in which to create a well ordered awareness.
I think the important thing is to avoid a saturated view of things or life that the social masses adopt. I think it's vital to construct a unique character that can identify you alone as an individual. A character which your family and friends can be proud of.
Fear can make you or break you. I hope knowing that there is a choice can give you new perspective and provide you with personal growth. Good luck.

Being vulnerable would mean being susceptible, weak, defenseless, in danger, in a weak position and at risk. It's no wonder that to some, being vulnerable is one scary state to be in.

Not being in control is not a situation that we'd find comfortable with. It's only human nature that we fear what we do not know, and facing the future with our defences down opens the door to getting hurt emotionally, physically, spiritually, financially; in fact at all levels. Once we are hurt, the injury may take a very long time to heal, if at all, and even then scars will remain to act as a constant reminder.

Scary? Very. However, we do still forge ahead because we should not let life's many twists and turns stop us from living. We are not alive until we truly live life. We stumble, we get hurt, we fall down, but we continue. True friends, family, the few people that we can count on will help us pull through, and being vulnerable will not feel so scary after all, in fact it is just being human.

We should be so lucky if we can find our pillar of strength, and I will be that for you if ever you need one, as I'm sure you will be for me.

Because fear begets fear.
Vulnerable to what?
Nobody is invulnerable just as nobody is secure - but an excess of that realisation is a form of fear / depression.
Our strength lies in the ability to be open & adapt to changes that we will always face, each success will make us feel more in the here & now ie less vulnerable.

Because when vulnerable, ANYTHING can happen to you. Bad things are usually first to come to mind. People with the fear of the unknown experience this more than others.

It's a sign of failure/ weakness a trait not many are proud to flaunt.
However, vulnerability is interpreted differently to different people.
Some see it as a human, commendable, attractive quality, others simply see it as flawed, fragile, shallow, even.

Not everyone express vulnerability and doing so yourself may or may not be a good thing to those you associate with.

Because the definition of vulnerability is that you are in possible danger, and bad things for them are what people tend to be scared of.

if we are vulnerable people can lead us anywhere they want. they'll use us. they can throw us like a trash can. we will be disposable. no use left. or just use and throw. one emotional breakdown and down we go. a nervous breakdown will probably follow. we might become insane, because of the number of let-downs we got. insanity in its fullest!
what a state we might be in!
(but if lucky, we will be led by good people and might be saved)

Vulnerability implies that there is something to be vulnerable to, and that weakness can lead to physical, emotional, or psychological harm.
