I am on birthcontrol Microgynon 30 and had to take antibiotics cipro for a few days. We used double protection during the intake of the medication, but not thereafter. Can my birthcontrol been affected longer by it and ave the chance for me being pregnant?

I did tell the nurse, but she didn't give any info on it and neither did the paper that came with the medication.

They say to use protection up to 2 weeks after the finish of antibiotics and other medicine. You pretty much have a 50/50 chance. If your period doesn't come, then take a test. I wouldn't stress too much over it though.

Depending on how long its been since you last took it. It takes at least 3 days for the medication to wear off enough where it doesn't effect the birth control pill. I've had 4 kids and have taken 3 different types of the PILL and antibotics to know. If u are still wanting to know about the effects always contact the pharmacy that you got it from the pharmacist will know about this more than asking us, but we are glad u did anyway. If u can't find it out from them always ask your doctor. Hope this helps.

Yes it surely can!
I've been told that you should consider yourself unprotected for twelve days AFTER the last dose of antibiotics.
May I also very respectfully add that if you are asking this question because you feel there is some possibility that you are already pregnant, make an appointment with a doctor ASAP and make sure you go. Don't wait, do it straight away. Don't allow it to reach the point where it's too late to consider any available options should your suspicions turn out to be reality.

I believe for the duration you are on the antibiotics your birth control will be affected. I could give it a good couple of weeks thereafter before trusting the BC to work properly.

Yes it definately can. I had to take antibiotics for a toothache and I am on Yasmin. I did not get pregnant, but I started spotting brown about a week before I was done with the active pills so I did get a little worried, but then my real period started on time.

It is a definate possibility. I was on ortho tri cyclin and had to get a shot of penicillin for strep throat. I am now 5 weeks along. I would suggest other protection at least a week after to be sure.

Any anti-biotics can affect the effectiveness of any birth control pills. It would have no bearing on condoms, but pills, puts the effectiveness rate down
