First of all, remember that the interviewer is likely to be nervous too. Almost all interviews are nervous for both parties. Your interviewer will likely have had many interviews prior to yours, and will understand that almost every person will be experiencing some form of nervousness. Prepare yourself by practicing your greeting in front of a mirror, and remember to smile when you are practicing and during the interview. Make sure you are well rested the night before, and have a light meal about an hour before your interview. Be honest and tell the truth during your interview. If you lie, the interviewer will likely know it immediately. Remain upbeat and positive during your interview, but above all, be professional, and use proper etiquette. Good posture and body language convey more than half of your inner intentions. Wait a few seconds before answering each question, and concentrate on what your interviewer is saying. This will convey to them that you are mature and reliable. Do not rush with your answers, take your time to say what you feel! Above all, be yourself. A few calm deep breaths through you nose prior top your interview will relax you and alleviate more stress than you can imagine. Don't forget to smile and let the interviewer see you for the person you are. Believe it or not, an interview can be a fun thing, and even if you don't get the job, it is good practical experience for other upcoming interviews. Good Luck, you will likely get the job you want if you follow this simple steps!

If you already lack confidence during interviews, your problem isn't how you perform during an interview--it's that you're worrying so much that it is affecting your performance.

The only reasons you should be worried are lack of experience at doing interviews, or lack of talent for them, or both.

Let's assume that you can talk fine and that you have picked a job you'd be good for. There's one thing you can do immediately, and only one I suggest, that will help:
Rehearse your answers in front of a mirror and with another person.

Have them ask the questions you expect to be asked--keep the answers pretty short, and try to smile. The mirror practice will tell you if you're moving your hands too much or doing something weird.

Good luck.

I would go with the practice suggestion. In front of the mirror, with friends, with family, whoever can help you out.

Surf the web for common interview questions and work on coming up with good answers. Also, be ready to demonstrate your skills (I had one interview that I had to write a few paragraphs about myself - It was a test of spelling, grammar and problem solving skills).

Know your resume and know the company. Check their web-site if they have one. Look at their entry in the phone book of they have one or find their catalogs and skim them. Know what they do and be prepared to show the knowledge in your interview.

Practice. Practice. Practice.

If the company is related to an industry that your not familiar with, pick-up some magazines about that industry or check industry related web-sites and be ready to demonstrate your knowledge on the topic.

Prepare a few questions of your own to show your interest in the company and the industry in general if you are given an opportunity to ask questions.

And ... Practice!

I hesitate to say this because I don't know how you hold your liquor, but do a shot before you go, preferably vodka or something that doesn't have a strong smell. Make sure you brush your teeth and eat breath mints, and this will be just enough to take the edge off and open you up.

Be careful of your self talk, it has a huge influence!

Picture yourself in the job and tell yourself over and over again about how great you are going to be and how lucky they are to have you.
