because I've heard many conservatives say that all it takes is hard work to make it in the U.S....
or do you just like being poor?
or is every poor conservative just on his way to success and making a quick stop at "poor" for the moment?

is this not a question? I was just trying to understand the situation of the poor people that are conservative, when I've heard many conservatives say some pretty strong things about the poor...
I was wondering their "take" on the issue...

perhaps it is priorities, as someone mentioned, more concerned with family... or perhaps it is intelligence level...

As a conservative college student, I am poor! But I am not lazy. I know some people hit rough times or things do not always work out the way people hoped, but that is one reason there are things such as the salvation army and what not. I do not like the idea of my money being used to support others, unless I decide to donate it to charity.
I don't plan on being a big success, i don't plan on being rich, that is never a goal of mine. I more or less just want to make the world a better place, then how it was when I entered it. And I believe the conservative philosophy works better to do this, since self-reliance is the greatest thing one can do.

Many conservatives are more concerned with social issues and values. And yes, it is, hopefully, just a pit stop to the middle class. What does Dave Ramsey say, broke is no money, poor is a state of mind. Something like that.
I think one of the differences between conservatives and liberals is conservatives are optimists and liberals are pessimists. I know that is a broad generalization, but there is an essence of truth there. There is a problem with seeing the world through rose-colored glasses, but giving up, settling, and losing hope, is far worse.

You obviously don't work hard enough. My dad speaks horrible English, he went to college in China, and he's not exactly a genius. We lived in the worst part of a horrible city when I was a baby. He has been making 6 figures for about 10 years now (it only took him five years in the workforce)... sure, in my community, we're not affluent but he could say he made it. Anyway, his purpose in coming here was for his children. I think I'll definitely be a success if I work at it. Even people who are not successes are that moment should be making their way toward a goal if they're poor at the moment. Nobody has to be poor if they have a good work ethic, a reasonably good brain, and a certain ambition (unless they're amazingly unlucky), though I do agree that there are people who are rich that deserve to be poor.

What is your definition of poor? There were times in my life when I had very little money but I did not consider myself poor. In debt, yes and not money for rent but I pulled myself up. So what is your point? I know some lazy conservatives and they don't have allot of money but that doesn't make them hypocritical conservatives it just makes them lazy people. So yes if you don't like being "poor" , hard work is the cure.

YES. Usually.
There are plenty of white, poor, lazy conservatives out there, no doubt. If they WANTED to though, yes, they could work hard and do well.
Its all a matter of priorities.

is this a bash against pay classes?
maybe some people find themselves in inescapable ruts. maybe they weren't born with 160 iq, maybe money isnt the main concern of some americans. being poor is not something anyone enjoys its a way of life for millions. im lucky being born in middle class and having a head start to success but that statement (or do you just like being poor) offended me.

1 - Neither the former nor the latter.
2 - Oh, I like it, most definitely!
3 - Nah, I definitely like and want to remain poor.
Any more "questions"?

Well there's always option 3, stupid. If you work hard and don't make it you're obviously not doing something right...
