Let's start off with his height, he's listed at 6'1 which is undersized but is going to measure up to 5'11. How many QBs in the NFL that start and go in the 1st round are 5'11?
Then you would throw out the argument that he has tall OL but guess what? He does not run a pro-style offense which makes his height much more crazy. You won't win in the NFL out of the Shotgun every year or through 4-5 WR sets.
Now let's go to his deep-ball strength. He has no deep-ball accuracy nor strength whatsoever. I've seen Ted Ginn slow down countless times in order to try and catch a lameduck by Smith. He won't throw for many yards in the NFL with that arm of his.
Now some of you are acting like Smith is this amazing athlete which he is not. Vick, Vince Young, Seneca Wallace, etc. all ran in the 4.3-4.4 range which is freakishly fast. Smith runs around a 4.7 which is not bad but hardly faster than Brady Quinn.
Just wondering, why do people actually think that?

But his arm isn't that great and he's on a great team which is why he beat ND. Last year's OSU D was just unstoppable no matter how you look at it and ND's defense is beyond horrible. Plus Quinn only has Samardzija in comparision to the plethora of weapons that OSU has.

Edward K-I respect that but adversity and leadership is what a guy like Bruce Gradkowksi brings to the table. His arm is not that great when he's throwing a deep-ball, he has good short-range accuracy but 25+ yards is not his strong point. His mobility, you are, giving him too much credit for. It's hardly better than Quinn and Quinn's stronger.
Guys, check out http://nfldraftcountdown.com it's the best draft site out there and see for yourself.

Matthew-I'm not sure if you are aware we are talking about his pro potential rather than his college play. He's been a great college QB, I will not deny that and deserves the Heisman. But people on here act like he is the #1 pick in the draft and I want to know WHY. I'm aware of the Zwick situation as I am also aware of his arrests and his minor suspension. Please, his arm is not great and draft gurus Mel Kiper and Scott Wright are also with me on that one too. So please, watch more closely.

The main reason people think he is so good is that he is so succesful in college. People have never seen him play against a high speed defense, and they assume he will do well. He is quite short and will probably not even be able to see over the linemen. He will have to run, (not that fast as you mentioned) out of the pocket to throw. In reality he should be a third round pick

He will not be a top pick as a QB, but as a person possessing great athletic skills. The Heisman winner is for the outstanding college football player of that season and not for a player who will be a superstar in the NFL. I do agree not many Heisman winners have been very successful. Of course, some have such as Barry Sanders, Roger Staubach and O.J. Actually the best pro prospects at QB this year might be Tyler Palko or Brian Brohm (if he comes out this year).

You obviously havent watched Troy Smith play. You speak as if you just started watching this year. The only true thing you said is about his height, he'll probably not be much in the NFL but to say that he doesn't have a accurate or powerfull arm is ridiculous. You forget that he was back up for Zwicks sorry ***. He replaced him and turned the entire team around. He's been practically unstoppable. Even in the loss against Texas, he only played half a game due to Tressels bad decision to switch him in and out with Zwick who did absolutely nothing in that game. That leaves him with 25 wins and 2 losses as a starter. People just need to stop looking at his stats and acting like it's the same as watching him play.

Who knows if he is going to be any good when he hits the league. The Heisman doesnt mean anything, in fact it has become somewhat of a joke. I believe Troy Smith is a pretty high pick, but whos to say whoever drafts him will make him a QB? He could become a reciever or a D-back?

He has a much better arm than you are giving him credit for. He is accurate, he is mobile, he has demonstrated leadership and the ability to work through adversity. He may not be the first QB taken next year, but he apperas to have the mental and physical tools to succeed at the next level.

I have no idea why they think that, all he does is throw it up there. He will be picked by a solid defense at least 4 times on January 8

Height can be overrated. Plus he is a good leader with a good arm. It is hard to overlook the fact that He is thought of to be so good because of those around him making big plays. Being on a undefeated and unstoppable team helps his cause too

Because he already beat Brady Quinn and was on an 11-0 team against really good defences. P.S. Florida over Ohio.

troy smith wont be the top pick, that is what nfl experts say, they say he might even be a 3rd round pick. but in college he will be heisman, and probably will be 1 round pick, probably not even top 5 tho.

well Troy can take his Heisman.........and maybe 50 cents.....and get coffee with both..........VERY FEW Heisman winners amount to anything in the NFL.
