Rest and ice applied early after the injury help to decrease swelling and pain.
Ice helps to decrease swelling by constricting blood vessels, by decreasing fluid accumulation, and by cooling and numbing the area.
Apply ice for 20 minutes an hour every hour while awake, for the first 24 hours. Ice should not be applied directly to the injury.
To avoid potential cold injury to the site, wrap the ice in a cloth or use a commercial ice pack. A bag of frozen vegetables wrapped in a cloth makes a good ice pack.
Protect the area from further injury. Stay away from athletic or other possibly injurious activities until after the eye has healed.
Forget the old adage about putting a steak or a piece of raw meat on a black eye. No scientific evidence supports this claim. In addition, there is a danger in putting potentially bacteria-laden meat on a mucous membrane or an open skin injury.

Of course time is really the only thing that can heal it... I'd suggest a little foundation. I received a blackeye from a stray volleyball during practice one day, and that night we had a banquet for volleyball. Needless to say that I did not want to get up in front of everyone with a black eye, but I put one some foundation over it and it was less noticeable. However, for a guy, you can still use foundation, use as close to your natural skin colour as possible, but don't put too much because then you can tell that you're wearing makeup, alot, and that may not go over that well with the fellas! lol... But it's not gonna be covered completely, just some. Just give it a try, could work out for you!

Ice for first 24 - 48 hours. Apply heat after 48 hours. Keep your head raised. Get some Arnica gel from Boots, and apply that often. Also supposedly meant to work is:
Put the inside of a banana peel to the bruise
Rub Parsley into the bruise
Will still prob take at least 10 days to go completely...
