Journalism was something I looked into before I graduated high school.
I planned to major in Journalism and English, then I found out it's not one of the highest projected jobs in the US, meaning in a few years, there will be fewer journalists because the need for them is decreasing.
What type of journalism were you looking into, there are a few different types, such as radio broadcasting, tv, newspaper, etc.
The need for newspaper reporters is diminishing because of the internet.
Think about it ... who reads the paper in 2006?
Hourly wage for newspaper journalists is double minimum wage, probably about 10 dollars an hour, maybe more in bigger cities.

It's best to check out a few books on the subject.
I'm sure there are plenty of career books at your local library.
Good luck.
If journalism is truly your passion, go for it!

It all depends of the corporation you work for and the reputation you have achieved, some of them make 6 digits while some others earn about the same as a factory worker..☺
