I am not a christian I don't belong to any specific religion, but I am a very spiritual person. I was raised as a Buddhism and Christmas was always portayed as extremely bad by my parents who were really hardcore. My wife was raised Muslim but left the religion because she found it to be too patriarchical, but she is also spiritual. Long tory short do you think two non christians should celebrate Christmas? And to the non Chirstians that do: How do you celebrate, any tips? Thanks!

Also does anybody know of any secular holidays we can participate in besides Kwanzaa?

G'day Bosshogg R,

Thank you for your question.

Many people who aren't religious celebrate Christmas for family togetherness. I think that you and your wife and family should celebrate your spirituality in a way that suits you both. You can certainly celebrate family togetherness.

There are no secular holidays other than Kwanzaa but you can celebrate as you wish as long as you don't interfere with other people. For example, my family is having brunch with champagne, bacon and eggs followed by presents to the kids, a lovely seafood Xmas dinner (we live in Australia where Xmas day is normally hot) followed by a lazy afternoon and evening where the adults digest their food and the kids play with their toys. We shall enjoy it tremendously. I hope that you have a great time.

Seasons greetings to you and your wife.

I was born and raised Christian, but have recently left it well for many reasons. However, I still celebrate it but in a different way. I love sending "Holiday cards" mainly to keep in touch once a year with everyone I know and love and plus it's fun to pick out cards that go for all the different religions my friends and family practice. Surprisingly, you can usually get a wide range of cards in one of the huge multi-pack cards for a good price. I love to put up a Christmas tree because I see it as a symbol of family and growth for the next year, not really Christianity. Many religions celebrate or honor different aspects of their beliefs and values at this time of year. Therefore, I don't see it really as a pure Christian holiday or time of year anymore. I think more than anything, it is fun and fullfilling to reconnect with family and friends and enjoy the lights, sounds, smells and festivity that is in the air this time of year, regardless of what people say the reason is. I believe that more than anything, love is the reason. Hope this helps!

Halloween isn't the Devils day. initially it grow to be spoke of as Samhain, the Celtic New 365 days. generally spoke of as The Day of the ineffective it grow to be believed that this international and the subsequent have been very close on that day and persons could have a good time their ancestors and go away foodstuff for wandering spirits on the roadside. It grow to be a time of magic and this has filtered down into modern subculture as ghosts, witches and so on. Being a Pagan competition it had not something in any respect to do with the devil, as that is a Christian component. The call of Halloween is derived from All Hallows Eve which precedes All Saints day - a Christian competition. Christmas too is initially Pagan - spoke of as yuletide. The Romans celebrated their own version right now - Saturnalia. So neither competition is Christian in any respect. in case you do unlike Samhain then that is high-quality, it is your determination. i like it nevertheless. via the way, Easter grow to be a Pagan competition too and can Day grow to be Beltane, so this is advisable to ward off those as properly.

You know all year long I'm miserable about a lot of things. As soon as i hear that Christmas music it's like I've woken up to a better life. I'm not a church going person, regardless of my family (mother mostly) traditionally being Christian. I celebrate Christmas because it makes me happy and I have a reason to be with my family. You do not need a religious reason to celebrate Christmas, just get together with your family and give them gifts and have fun.

well, sure, why not, people from other nations celebrate christmas without knowing why it was celebrated. Example, china(ok, maybe only a few knows why). All you do is setting up a tree, be thankful for what you've got, and exchange gifts. I mean, christmas isn't exactly the day that christ was born, so if you want to celebrate the goodness all around you, go ahead.

Christmas has returned to being a social/cultural holiday in addition to being a Christian one. Christmas, or rather Yule, was also a pagan religion well before the Christians came along.

If you believe in peace and goodwill, then you can celebrate.

I think you should celebrate anyway that you want. Yes, Christmas is a Christian holiday but it's also a time to celebrate. To rejoice with family and have a good time.

Stop focusing on the "religion" part of Christmas instead enjoy it for what it was really meant for, bringing happeiness to you and to spend time and bond with your family... althought that might be a little difficult... Basically just enjoy Christmas, and besides, it's not like it's against the law or anything, just do what you want to do and enjoy christmas.

certainly and you can have a good time. try playing games, talking in front of a fireplace, drinking hot chocolate, perhaps a small gift for each other if you want to, memories are so much fun to make. might also suggest a one use camera to capture a few precious moments. please whatever you decide to do enjoy each other while you can because no one lives forever and the only thing left are memories so please make some happy ones to remember. after 30 years a very wonderful lady left 7 years ago, but the memories are with me still.
