I'm 18 years old. I haven't really gone through any depressing events lately, but I'm just not content with my life. I haven't been too depressed, but I rarely feel happy. I feel like I'm just kind of wandering through life with no purpose. Is it just teen angst? It feels different from when I was 15 and just hated the world.

-and it's not just that I sit at home all day. I'm pretty popular, have great friends and have lots of hobbies.

Hello Nick,

I think its just a phase, people feel high and low all the time. Its not depression, and personally I do not believ in seeking for Help such as therepist in every little problem on ecomes across in life which causes depression . Peopel in the west do that very often. Life isfullof problems just that we should learn how to deal with it, that makes us stronger and helps us grow. You are not undergoing depression, its just BLUES, weLL change of environment will make u feel better, hanging out with frenz doing the same thing partying, girls may resolve the problem temperory but get to the core of what is making you feel sad? Things wil not be the same it was 15 yrs bk and now, it could be small stress that you think is not important but subconciously is bothering you. May be going to college, paying for tution, may be getting into good school, grades, family problems, monotonous life. could be anything. I suggest go out do soemthing you love to do, go for a haircut, shop.... You NEED CHANGE. After that you will get soem attention from girls.. and that could lift your spirit:) I mean for a 18 yrs old. i am sure you must check this column many times for answers... just dont.... get on with life. we can simply suggets you but its you who has to implement it. Have fun!

Symptoms of depression
One always feels sorry sad, stop smiling, is LOST in thoughts, can sit at one place for days and nights... does not care about his/her appreance, Things on eloves to do generally, looses interest in everything, feels no purpose in life, soem times sucidal tendencies.

Nick I am sure you have none of these, so please do not thing negative. The more you think you are depressed your mind works accordingly and feeds you with information that you are depressed. Try searching for happines sin small little things, also i feel you are just confused not focused thats causing the frustration. Why dont you talk to some one who is elder to you but also understand you like a frend....

Soory, hon. It carries on through the rest of your life. Find some friends to hang out with. Get out of the house. Or find a hobby, I know that sounds stupid, but if you can find something to keep your mind busy you won't think about how bored you are. Work really hard, save your money and move to Maui. Lots of fun to be had there.

Get out there and get a life and switch that computer off in fact ban yourself from it and get out there and meet some people of your own age instead of feeling sorry for yourself .
You will never get anywhere feeling the way that you feel at the moment.
Or go to college and find yourself a decent job, you will eventually meet somebody and settle down, But meantime get out there and have some fun as you only live once

I think that you become a grown up cause you are 18 and that you should have more fun and spend lots of your time with you friends. If you are at home every day that causes the problem cause you don't have any fun and lots of laugh. If you are watching tv all day I know that that is so boring and I think that you should tell that to your mum, cause that is what I always do.

Are you in college? I just started college and I have the same feeling. It's not depression but I"m focusing more on my future and missing my past. Everything's just suddenly hard and I'm responsible for so much...

Okay, first, to 'looking 4 help' --- you are the one who should get a life.

Now... maybe you should find a hobby like the other person/people say. I don't know anything else I could say that would help.

good luck, hope you're feeling better soon.
