To be entertained. It's the escape from your normal setting. The theater is dark unfamiliar surroundings, you get the point.

I only go if there is a movie that I really want to see. Until Pirates of The Caribbean 1, I hadn't been to the movies in five years.

Because they want to see a movie. I mean dude how obvious is that. If your asking why they go instead of buying movies from the store its because sometimes the whole "Big Screan" thing goes through there head. So maybe next time add a little more detail and I will be happy to answer.

If your question is asking why we go to movies as opposed to staying home and watching a movie, then I guess I'd have to say the experience.
Typically I only *go* to the theater when its an 'epic' movie, lots of action beautifully filmed, etc.
Otherwise, there isn't much of a reason.

I like to get the most out of the sound and picture (not all movies, though). For some movies like Star Wars & The Matrix, it's good to see all those special effects on the big screen rather than on a TV. (IMO)
