I kind of had the same problem on my Silverado, the best way to know for sure if it's the fuel pump, is detaching the fuel filter(usually located at the chasis) and place a meter, a must have for a mechanic. It will give you the pressure fuel is sent to the injectors.
Good luck!!!

First check the fuse in the fuse box, look in your little book in the glove box if you got one, if not call a dealership and ask where the fuse is located, then check the fuel filter to be sure its not plugged. It should be replaced every 20,000 miles. If all is well have someone (a mechanic) remove the fuel filter then turn the key to the key on engine off position and see if there is fuel coming out of the fuel pipe (please no sparks, be safe no cig.). If no fuel is coming out you will likely need a fuel pump, an after marker pump will work well. Good Luck and GOD Bless.

Fuel pumps usualy give an indication that they are going out.

1) Low engine power at high speed, then it starts and dies.

I just replaced my fuel pump in 91' Chev. 2500 last week.

Check the fuse first.
If the fuse is good, pop the hood and there is a relay, and fuse under a protective shroud on the left side of the firewall and is marked as for what is what.

When you turn the key to the "on" position DON'T START. You should hear the relay click off after two seconds.

good luck.
