No that is NOT normal. I am pretty sure at 20 weeks you should be seen every 4 weeks. Then when you hit 30 weeks it is every two weeks. They should be checking the baby's heart rate and measuring your stomach taking your blood pressure and giving you urine tests. I would start looking for another doctor right away. I switched doctors mid pregnancy with my second child and it was well worth it.

There is a marked difference in the UK system vs the US. As a previous poster said, monthly to 7 months, then every two weeks and then weekly in the last month.
In the US you get information on birthing classes and would have signed up for them by now. That way YOU can make your birth plan. Don't let them give you a birth plan, be involved in developing it. If you want a natural birth, let them know. If you want an epidural at the first pain, they need to know (otherwise you can be too far along to get one). The classes also help with things like how to put in car seats (and get them checked at the local fire station), how many nappies (I've always thought that was a funny word!), burp cloths, swaddling, etc.
I'm not sure if this is a NHS thing and if you had a private doctor would it be different in the UK. Also, in the US, there is less use of midwives. (And we use OB/GYNs.)
Anyway, you done the right thing asking. Just ask for as much help as they can give you.
Good luck!

Your community midwife should be visiting you at home (or asking you to visit the clinic if it is nearby) every month at first, and every week as it grows nearer to your due date. You probably have a card or booklet - your notes - which you have to keep with you at all times. That should have your midwife's number on it and your next appointment. Give her a call! They sem to have forgotten you!
Basically though you only go to the hospital or see a doctor if there is something wrong. So from the 20 week scan to 36 weeks is normal, but you should have at least two midwife visits in between.

That seems like you are missing a few appointments. In my area, you see the midwife at 25 weeks and 28 weeks as well, although you only have a scan at 20 weeks. So you have midwife appointments, but not hospital appointments.
For things like antenatal classes, they should inform you about the NHS classes available. But if you want private classes, you have to look into that yourself.
Give your midwife a call. She should be checking your blood pressure and urine between 20 and 36 weeks.

I have had four children, and the process was much the same with all four.
To begin with, the midwife only wants a check up every six weeks, until you reach around 30 weeks or so. Its the closer you get to your due date the more often theywant to see you.
Dont worry, and if you have any concerns ask your midwife to put your mind at ease by explaining the process to you.
Good luck xx

You should have a date for your next midwife's appointment, you only go to the hospital for your scans and if you are having problems, so no need to worry there, when you phone on Monday check they have appointed you a midwife, and ask to make an appointment to get all your questions answered

U haven't been offered midwife visits to your home ?????
it is normal for them to visit every 4 weeks or so from 20 weeks up till 36 weeks then u have weekly visits.........either at home or hospital, is how its done in Aberdeen anyways. Start questioning because you should be having at least monthly visits for blood pressure checks ad heart beat checks

they did no longer take any blood from me the 1st visit. yet they did do a pelvic examination and that they are going to take a urine pattern whenever you visit the surgeon. they're going to verify the midsection beat, have you ever fill out all of the place of work work and go over the particularly some questions with you.. alongside with, "do you smoke/drink/and so on?" "do you very own a cat?" and that they are going to ask approximately kinfolk historic previous. commonly purely accepted issues plus the pelvic examination. considering you found out you're pregnant a month in the past and that's your first visit.. they could or will possibly no longer deliver you to grant blood and make an appointment to your first ultrasound. stable luck to you.

Congrats!! i had a lot of trouble with pre-term labor but normally you go once a month until you are about 7 months and then every other week until the last month and then weekly from then on. i would definately consult another doctor!! your first pregnancy is going to bring on a lot of questions and feelings that you aren't sure are normal, or what's going on. i would also get the book "What To Expect When You Are Expecting". that was my "bible" when i was pregnant. hope that was helpful. good luck!!
