My husband and I have been married for 6 months and want to have a baby. I havent been on any birth control and havent taken any steps to prevent it, how long should we, "wait and see", before going to the dr and seeing if we have a problem. Also, is there anything that can help us get pregnant? Preferably natural things.

Well, first of all, start actually trying.

I had been taking the "see if it happens" approach for a YEAR and it never did. So if you want this, try wholeheartedly.

Chart your basal body temperature. Sign up for an account at www.fertilityfriend.com. It's free. Go to Wal-Mart and get yourself a digital basal thermometer for less than $10. When you get back read the "Charting Your Way to Conception" lessons on the website. Start taking your temperature TOMORROW according to their instructions, even if you're mid-cycle, because it will give you practice and get you in the habit of doing it.

Observe your cervical mucus. Sometimes certain types of discharge or mucus can signal ovulation. Google "fertile cervical mucus" to find out all about that.

Buy an OPK. It's on the same shelf as the pregnancy tests. Pee on a stick and when it turns positive, you're ovulating.

You can add the mucus and the OPK results to your FertilityFriend chart, too, and it takes them into account when pinpointing when you ovulated.

All this is assuming you know what ovulation is and why you should have sex then to conceive. If not brush up on your knowledge of women's reproductive cycles before continuing.

If you're into herbal medicine there are things you can take to encourage ovulation and regulate your cycle, including Ginger and Chaste Tree Berry. Those are the safest and easiest herbal supplements to use. Both of you can take ginger in pill form, or drink ginger tea, or add ginger from the grocery store to the food you already eat. Chaste Tree Berry is only for you. It usually comes in pill form, and you have to get it from a place like GNC or an herbal store ... Wal-Mart will not have it. It helps regulate your cycles.

Before trying Chaste Tree Berry consult an herbalist to make sure you don't have any other conditions, and aren't taking other medications, that might interfere with them or be interfered with by them. They can also recommend other supplements that might help. You can read a professional herbalist's advice to other couples trying to conceive here: http://www.herbnet.com/ask%20the%20herbalist/asktheherbalist_questions%20on%20Pregnancy_Nursing.htm

To email her your own question click on "back to the index". Her email address is on that page.

She is the herbalist that sells Fertili-TEA, which is obviously a tea made of herbs, designed to increase your fertility. I have heard good things about it but have not tried it myself.

My partner works in IVF so I have this from a very reliable source. If you are under the age of 35 and trying to conceive you should manage a pregnancy within a year providing you are giving it a good effort. On average there is a 20% success rate for couples that are regularly having intercourse and of course you can time your intercourse to around the time of ovulation (14 days after the 1st day of your period or 14 days before the start of your next period).
If you are over 35 they still suggest a year but if you have readily tried before it is wise to look into it sooner.
Most people try too hard and get worked up when things don't gel. My advice, relax, have fun and don't stress. Give yourselves another 6 months of romance and long passionate nights, ensure you are having intercourse around the point of ovulation and don't concern yourself your temperature or the fact that it hasn't happened yet...stress does funny things to your body and can be counterproductive
Remember, most couples can have children and the majority of people are not infertile and don't need intervention so with that thought in mind hop to it, have fun and good luck!

Very dependent on your and your partners age, to decide when to see a specialist. In Canada you have to have been trying for 1 year before they will send you to a specialist unless you have a medical history (IE:blocked tubes). You should know to that there is only a 25% chance of getting pregnant in any given month for a medically normal couple and this is about the same percentage as IUI

check out the site
www.todaysparent.com
this site has forums that include preconception and fertility with a bunch of really nice people who are also very knowledgeable.

If you are really concerned that you are having some problems...it's never too early to talk to a doctor. They can also give you tips and advise and tell you what you are doing wrong or what you are doing right.

Have you bought an ovulation kit yet? The ones that are like the home pregnancy test...and you get 7 or so sticks. I'm sure if you are frustrated enough you've already done this...but just in case you haven't.

Just make sure you are keeping track of everything.

Good Luck & God Bless

You should start tracking your cycle so that you know when you ovulate. If you search ovulation predictor online you'll get sites that will help you. Also you can chart your BBT with a BBT thermometer to help know when you ovulate.

It takes about 8 months average of WELL TIMED sex to get pregnant. You're chances each month are only about 25%. Once you've been trying 1 year then it usually is time to contact a doctor to get things checked out.

My doctor told me that it takes the average healthy woman ages 18-32 up to a year to get pregnant and they wont do any treatments(like invitro) to help you concieve before a year of natually trying. it took me 9 months to get pregnant with my daughter who is now 1 month old so don't give up hope! i do recammend quitting smoking if your a smoker and no caffine. anything you read about trying to concieve will tell you that! o ya and i read somewhere in a magazine that if you are trying to concieve the best way is to have sex every other day because then your man has his optimal serm count unlike if you did it ever day which would lower his production rate! good luck!

They usually say wait up till a year before seeing the doctor about it. You can try using an ovulation kit to determine your "most" fertile days. Hope this helps. Good Luck

You can start by charting you periods to find out when you actually ovulate. look at www.mymonthlycycles.com this site can help you figure it out. Usually when you go to the doctor and it hasn't been a year in trying they advise you to continue until it is a year. But You can also speak with an OB/GYN to ask them what the thing can help you while you TTC. Good Luck

what works for me is (this might just be coincidence and i dont want kids right now) but every single time i know when im supposed to get my period i end up getting pregnant (this has happened the only 3 times in my life that i kept track. if this is not working for you try not worrying about your period. As for going to the doc, go now. theres nothing wrong with a checkup. the sooner you know whats wrong if there is something wrong the better. and next time i will not check when my period is coming
