I've been searching around for a particular toy my little boy wants for Christmas and everywhere has been sold out. Yesterday I did long Google search, and found a little company in Scotland that stocks it.

So I e-mailed asking whether they had one, and they replied saying "yes, give us your address and we'll set one aside". They don't have credit card facilities on the site, so I promised to send off a cheque today.

So I was a bit staggered to answer the door to the postman this morning to find that not only had they sent the toy (by first class, next day delivery) but they'd included a few little extra treats "for his stocking too" - before I'd even sent off the cheque.

How amazing is that? I e-mailed to say "wow" and they replied "sometimes you just have to take things on trust". The toy is only £10, but I've sent £40 to cover postage and to have a few Christmas drinks on me.

Chuffed to bits I am. Renews my faith in human nature a bit.

I don't think I ought to put up their name - but the toy I was after is a "character" related one that they specialise in. They aren't a toy shop, as such.

It was a company in Scotland you say, sort of bugger's the tight fisted stereotype of the Scot's don't you think. Although I do remember Angel telling me about when she took her kids to Disneyland Paris, while there looking around one of the gift stores, her oldest took it upon herself to touch not look, and sent three shelves of china Disney moneyboxes crashing down on each other, probably about £250 in goods turned into scrap. Did the French Disney employees kick up a fuss, NO, they calmed down first the child who was balling her eyes out, and then told Angel not to worry, the shelves are a bit dodgy and these things happen, and off they went. Good human nature alive even in France...

What a great story - thanks for sharing it - it's this kind of thing that makes me really love Christmas.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all operate on the principle of I'll trust you until you prove me wrong, rather than starting from the perspective of I know you're gonna rip me off?

Hope your son enjoys the toy, and good for you for rewarding the company's good spirit - just makes it eveen more likely they'll keep doing stuff like that...

That's really nice - it's times like this that brings out the best in people. Most companies would be thinking about their profits at Christmas, but you got lucky - & you were very generous in return.

I think it is the greatest before-Christmas story of this or some years past. What wonderful people! And you are wonderful, too--sending them a gift in return.

P.S. It is a shame more people don't "take things on trust" on occasion.
