I'm about 15 yrs, 5 foot 9, 135 pounds, and want to try out for football. I'm a pretty fast runner and good jumper. The only problems are that: 1, football is crazy competitive at my school (if you watch NFL countdown, they talked about us because Nick Mangold's little sister is on the offensive line), and 2, my parents want me to do marching band(again). The only other problem I have is that I am not good at catching passes because I used to have a lazy eye when I was younger which led to stunted hand-eye coordination growth. I hate band and never actually wanted to do it (parents made me), and I've been wanting to play football since I was 11. I'm positive that, since football is what I want to do more than anything, I could stay with it and work up from where I am. Do you think I should give it a shot and if so, what position should I play?

I would also add that in middle school I was a black belt in Taekwondo, so I have pretty good reflexes and agility. I also think that it would be okay to do band if I was in football as well (if I could keep my grades up)

If a girl can play on the team and you can't than you got problems. Try out and if you don't make it try to beat up the girl on the O-line. If you can beat the crap out of a 300 pound linewoman you will become popular and won't need football. PS Playing in the band will ruin your social life.

Yeah, playing defensive back sounds good for you, whether that means being safety or cornerback. I'd say corner. Go ahead and try out...you're 15, you're not a little kid anymore. It's time for you to start taking control of your life, and if you want to do this, you should. Just go and try out. Run a lot...that's important. Work out too...stuff like weight lifting and crap, otherwise you might end up getting abused by bigger receivers. Also, watch football games....hell, record them, and pay special attention to what goes on in the secondary. What's the receiver doing...and how does the corner react, and what happens? Learning how to predict your receivers route and how to react to it will make you very good.

An important thing may just be sharp eyes...you gotta stay with the receiver, but you also have to keep an eye on the QB...where's he looking? How's he throwing it, and where's it going to be? Positioning is key, and since you say you're good at jumping....well, get up there and knock the pass down. You can work on catching later...

Talk to your parents and express your interest.
I would say go for it and your coach will assess your athletic ability. Also, play "jacks" (small ball and throw 10 star shaped objects on the ground etc. ) this will improve your hand/ eye coordination. Have someone toss you the football softly while blind fold. The purpose of this is to stimulate an automatic reflex to grasp the ball when you feel the ball touch your hand. If you can catch while blind fold, you will be able to catch while your eyes are open. My nephew is 12 years old and he has never dropped a ball. Also meditate, to learn how to tune out distractions. Practice, Practice, and Practice.
Go Get 'em.

Well i think you shouldnt give up so what you cant catch. keep practicinig. I once couldnt run that fast i mean like i was as slow as a turtle. but now i am the fastest runner in my school. If your parents want you to join the marching band and you dont tell them how you feel. they should want the best for you and what you want to do not them. So just keep trying and talk to your parents and maybe they will understand.

P.S. Good luck trying out!!!!
P.S.S Keep practicing youll get better

try to be a corner or a safety until you can catch the ball better, in the meantme you can at least knock it down and prevent an INT. Would your school let you do both? Mine did and it was really cool coming out at halftime and playing with the band in my footbal uniform.

DO IT MAN!!!
when i entered high school at 14 i was 5'10 140lbs...skinny as a poll...i started out at tight end cause my coaches thought id get bigger. i didnt. got moved to rover, which is basically a free safety/elephant position and LOVED IT!!! i was under sized but did well. i entered my sr year a 2 yr letterman and was 6'3 180...still very undersized but in high school it doesnt matter...not everyone is big so you can hold your own. my parents told me i couldnt do it, my friends me told i was gonna get killed but i was fine. i never got seriously injured. it was the best time of my life. just work hard. dont be afraid to hit/get hit. the sound the pads make, mae it seem worse than it is. eat A LOT work out A LOT bulk up and youll be fine.

i played on a CIF DIV 1 semi finalist team ( if youre familiar w/ CA football). our program was very competive as well. but thehardest workers always played. im sure its the same at your school. OUT WORK EVERYONE AND YOULL SEE PLAYING TIME.

plus, chicks like football players more than band geeks!!!

I'd say Yes. Your 15 It's time that you started making the your own plans for what activities you want to do. You should also try to go out for a defensive back/safety/corner (receiver types that can't catch). Your almost as tall as NFL DB's too.

1. you dont know how to copy and paste because there is a typo on the 4th to last football. 2. you are bored and have nothing better to do. 3. football is the first thing that popped into your head when you decided to be an annoying ignoramus.

Start dating that 300 lb offensive guard chick. The she'll hook you up because you're her boyfriend. Then you can marry her and you'll be rich when she becomes the first woman to start for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Then you can divorce her, take half her money, and run off with a hot cheerleader. Sounds like a brilliant plan.

I think you should try for football! If you do it then I think your position should be MLB (middle line backer). Since you can jump high you could tip the ball if the QB throws it toward you. Since your fast you could catch up to the person that has the ball.TRY IT!!!!!!!
