which way does the water pump impellar go in a merc 9.8 outboard motor?

If you hold the impeller housing in your hand with the bottom side facing up. Take the rubber impeller and turn it counter clockwise so the fins point clockwise untill it's fully seater in the housing.

i saw a movie on this once. if you take the housing off, you're picking up news & weather on channel 4!! with the lower unit in a vise, turn the drive shaft clockwise while pushing down on the impeller...clockwise is to the right. it ain't easy the first time. be patient, you'll get it.
