the best bow makers in history were the Huns, they used the center of the Yew as a base for thier bows, the wood was steam heated to shape and form the wood

The English longbow was traditionally made of yew because of it's strength and flexibility.

Modern bows are usually made of fiber glass. Good yew is scarce and would never satisfy the demand.
