You're going to become a sheriff ( and by the way Sheriff has two f's and one r) and spelling is very important so for starters learn how to spell what you plan on becoming. As for the question, are you serious? This is your thought process and you want to become a Law Enforcement official? Park your "trucks?" inside and maybe focus on other things like spelling and what it takes to get into Law Enforcement.

If you are nice to them and don't pester them for stupid, anal things, they will respect you more for it. It's possible to have a working relationship with the youth and the police.

No offense towards you personally, but often during peaceful demonstrations and gatherings where nothing illegal is going on and no one is being hurt, the police show up and assume and try to find things. That's how it was for me growing up and it's still that way in my neighborhood where I live now. That hurts the youth and makes them untrusting of the police, even the police with good intentions and the ones(as I'm sure you are) that are genuine, caring people.

Hear,Hear I totally agree with what the lady above Candice said in her reply.
You will encounter a big change in attitude of folks you know, let alone pre teens as you put it,to be successful it is a team effort from the whole Sheriff's Office and you are just a cog in a big wheel.
From what you have asked ,I would read it like you have issues already so maybe time to seek advice from other more Senior Deputies___Cheers

I guess this depends on how you act in public,if you prance around saying **LOOK AT ME** I'm a Law Enforcement Officer then start to down them straight away, life will be difficult.

RESPECT is what it's all about, you only get this by being fair minded BUT strict, once they realise what you stand for, then like anything time will sort this out.

ARROGANCE will not get you anywhere but disliked intensely by ppl, so at first slowly does it so you get recognised as a person not to mix with.Notwithstanding that you must be a proud member of team of Officers, this you will learn.Cos there are a lot of scumbags you will have to deal with,,Good Luck..♥
