I'd say d. Greater power for the Church of Rome. King Henry obtained absolution from the pope with great difficulty, and had to agree to a nasty penance (somewhere I read that he had to submit to being whipped by eighty monks!). The Church grew only stronger, and its power reached its climax in the time of King John, the son of king Henry.

I don't know this, and I was standing in the spot he was killed (in Canterbury Cathedral) only 2 weeks ago!

If I had to guess, I would say greater power for the Church of England. I guess this because Henry VIII started the Church of England (because the pope wouldn't grant him a divorce) and he's also the one who ordered Becket to be killed.
