Wow, that's mean of him. Maybe he was having some other issues. Of course we don't know the relationship you have with your dad. If he's not normally that way, I'm sure it was a way to take out his anger or frustration with something else. How about get him a gift certificate to a candy store. Or a lump of coal and a note that says: "you've been bad!" j/k
I would still get him something. And I would be sure to include a gift receipt so he can exchange it if he doesn't like it

I went to Washington, DC, and bought my mother a very expensive box of candy from the Godiva chocolate store in Union Station. When I brought it home and gave it to her, she threw the box down on the couch, looked at me all hateful and said, "Why didn't you get me a t-shirt instead?"
I never bought her another gift again........

It was nice of you to buy him candy in the first place. I agree with the others, he was probably just having a bad day. Maybe you should tell him how his comment hurt your feelings. Maybe he'll apologize--maybe he didn't mean it.
You should still buy him something for Christmas--just no candy! âº

Don't buy him something to make him feel better. Just because he's your dad, he get's to treat you like ****? Tell him how you feel. Hopefully he's sorry, but if he isn't, no loss. You shouldn't have to deal with that, and you don't have to.
I can't stand fathers who treat their children like pieces of ****. Having a bad day is not an excuse. There is never a reason for that. ...unless he's bipolar? If that's the case...sucks for you.

buy him something and put a note on it saying, "sorry you didn't like the candy, hope this makes up for it". Maybe he'll remember how awful he was to you and apologize, cause he owes you one. You were just trying to be thoughtful and didn't deserve his attitude.

Sorry your feelings were hurt. Have you considered that the issue was probably not the candy? Something else might have been bugging him.

He's done wrong, and now you're following him? Christmas is the time to forgive and forget, smile and sing carols. Get him a box of gooodcandy (His favorite brand, maybe), but don't talk to him. I'm sure that he'll be sorry for what he's said to you. And before long, you shall be singing those carols...
