8% of Americans remember Pearl Harbor! Wow that's pretty good because it happened over 60 years ago. So if they actually remember the event they would be in excess of 67 years old. Then consider the population of the US in 1942 and the population now. 8% is pretty good. 9/11 was 5 years ago so anyone under the age of 8 would not remember the event even if they were in the country. So 93% is reasonable. They said no one would forget where they were when JF Kennedy was shot and they were right. Anyone 8 years old or more remember and many weren't in the US at the time. Some events are so significant to the population and the politics of the time that they won't to forgotten in your life time. Some will be burned into history because of the changes they initiated.

I live in Canada and I will always remember it.
I think by our very nature that memories fade though. you say 8% of americans remember Pearl Harbour - to be fair, it was 65 years ago so many people who are old enough to remember it have passed away. That would explain the low percentage. However the actual day and events are part of history. And so, even though the majority of people cannot claim 1st hand knowledge like the 8%, it is still remembered and recognized as a significant occurance.
I believe the same will be true of 9/11. It was definately a significant turn of events where world history is concerned. So it will be written in the history books and people will study it.... but the memories will fade along with the age of those who experienced it in true time.

Yes, I remember it...and I always will. I kept all magazines with detailed info and pictures of what happened, so I can show them to my daughter when she is old enough to understand.
I hate those people for what they did to us and how they took our innocence. Pearl Harbor was horrible, but it is different from 9/11, in that it was a military target. 9/11 was a murderous act on innocent civilians.
It has been over 5 years and I still get extremely upset when I see those images of the planes hitting the towers, the fire at the Pentagon, the mighty towers collapsing and the outline of a plane's wing carved into a lonely field in Shanksville, PA.
Although it is extremely painful to remember, we must not forget who did this and why they did it. Most importantly, we must realize that they want nothing more than to do it again.
God Bless America.

my father died in the twin towers so i will forver and ALWAYS be affected by 9/11. But with other people, maybe nothin happened to them that made that big of a difference, so they may have no reason to remember...but then again..how could you forget something like that?

We'll never forget it. 80+% of Americans don't except the official 9-11 story, either. This story is far from being over.

only a few people will actually remember it after sometime. that's the terrible truth but people have this tendency to forget. that's why people hardly ever learn from such situations.

I'll remember 9/11 just like I remember that day in elementary school when the Challenger exploded. I guess it didn't help us forget since we watched it over and over and over and over ... can we go out and play, please? Oh wait, it exploded again.
