Turkey baster?

Essentially, you can use either a known or unknown donor. Both have advantages and disadvantages, so which one is best is up to you.

The advantages of a known donor are that it costs little to nothing, it can be done in privacy without a doctor's involvement, and it's slightly easier to be successful since you don't need to be as precise with your timing. The disadvantages are no STD protection or genetic testing (unless you pay for it) and no guarantees about the future. The idea of having him "sign his rights away" is a fool's effort. If he changes his mind, it's a useless piece of paper, even if drafted by a lawyer! Known donors have parental rights in the opinion of the courts.

The advantages of an anonymous donor from a sperm bank are guaranteed protection from STDs, some genetic testing which can be vitally important if you have conditions like Sickle Cell Anemia or Tay-Sachs in your own genetic history, guarantee of no involvement by the biological father in the future (anonymous donors have no parental rights in the eyes of the court), and the ability to select certain traits, such as an affinity for music or brown eyes. Disadvantages are cost (anywhere from $600 to 2000 per cycle depending on the bank, any fertility drugs, and doctor's charges), doctor's involvement, and a smaller window of opportunity for conception.

If you decide on a known donor, you can do it the old fashioned way or collect the semen in a syringe and insert it. Don't use a turkey baster--there's too much air. You can get a syringe at any pharmacy counter. Don't go past the cervix. Instead, empty the syringe as close to the cervix as possible. Elevate your hips and remain prone for at least 30 minutes.

If you use anonymous donor sperm, a gynecologist or reproductive endocrinologist will perform an IUI (Intra-uterine Insemination). The staff will prepare the sperm and place them past the cervix and into the uterus. After about 30 minutes, you can get up.

Both methods require that you monitor and be VERY familiar with your cycle. Charting and the use of OPKs are necessary. I recommend reading Toni Weshler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Also, search for your local chapter of the Single Moms by Choice group. The offer advice on everything from conception to empty nest syndrome, and are a fun bunch of ladies, too. Good luck! :)

Adoption is always a compassionate and smart choice. A baby is a baby and you would love it as your own just the same. If you feel the need to have a biological child the I would suggest asking a friend or even putting an ad in the paper! Get the guy tested and to sign on the dotted line to waive rights ( and free of child support) and go at it a few times, ha ha ha. Much cheaper than a sperm bank!

uuuhhh go to a sperm bank and get artifiacially done. What other way is there if not by a penis? if you dont want to be with a man it wont be hard to find a clean guy that will be willing to sign a sheet of paper agreeing to help you get pregnant and except no responsablilty. hey, i guess thats how the sperm bank got started, their are all kinds of guys,( and even more sad mothers,) who dont want the responsabilty of their own child.

Well, unless you are visited by an angel there is going to have to be a man involved.

You can be artificially inseminated. However, such procedures are generally pretty darned expensive and not guaranteed to work. It would be much easier if you just found a likely guy and did it the old fashioned way.

You could go to a sperm bank, but if all you want is a child, why not adopt? There are millions who don't have a home and all they need is someone to love them.

There is what they call the IVF treatment. Ask you Gyno about it, I'm sure he or she will be able to give you more explanations.
