Semester hour: unit of academic credit; one hour a week for an academic semester.
The average college class meets for 3 hours a week; usually on Mon/Wed/Fri (for 1 hour each day) or Tu/Thurs (for an hour and a half each day). Some courses may meet for only 1 hour per week (i.e. a biology laboratory).
Since $283 is per semester hour the typical three hour course would cost you $849.

Normally you should have at least 12 credit hours per semester to be a full time student. So that will cost you 283 * 12 = 3396 just for the tuition alone. That doesn't include other fees and expenses.

Each course is assigned a certain amount of hours, or credits, for successfully completeing the course. These credits will go toward your graduation requirements. For example, a 3 credit course would cost you $849 ($283 x 3 credit hours)

It means for every credit hour, (most classes are 3 credit hours, accept one's with labs and they are sometimes 4, and full time is considered to be 12 credit hours), you will pay $283. This equals $3,396.00 for 12 credit hours which is full time...This does not include dorm fees, food, or books and supplies.....Hope this helps you......

The average student takes 3 credit hour courses in college - what this means is that you will have to pay $849 for a typical college course - which in this day in age is relatively cheap.

Hmmm, that's really weird. Does your school have an online platform (like where you can see your financial aid and register for classes, etc)? If so, look on there for the list of classes that you registered for (it should say "course schedule" or something to that effect) and it should list the number of credit hours that you're registered for.
