Because the father of American sociology was an ivory towered Frenchmen, who never came down from his tower and did any real field work. Refer to the pseudo-intellectual clowns that export their nonsense to us now. The sui generus idea of sociology has not been successfully dumped, as it needed to be. Durkheim, the Frenchman, said that there is no human that is not socially constructed. Sociologist tend to hang on to this outmoded concept, despite biological, genetic and even psychological refutations to their cherished concept. Since the rise of post modern thought, sociology has embraced it mightily, even going so far as to cast off scientific methodologies. No wonder that sociology is the laughing stock of any science hall I have ever been in.

Sociology just talks about how humans interact with one another. If we spent less time trying to figure out the way we work, the world would be a better place. Economics shows us how we interact through trading, money exchange, etc. Can humans like us even begin to realize the vast amount of people who are suffering from hunger, poverty, and disease? I think not. Would you like to know why? If you don't, I'll tell you anyway. We are so wrapped up in our own lives that we can't focus on others. We are trying to survive by thriving on money and it's complex ways. Yeah, I know, I'm an over-analytical, geeky girl. Oh well, that's just me.

Both of those sciences show what is wrong with this nation and speaks it outloud without sugar coating and people do not want to see that. They want to think everything is fine when we are really no better off now than we were deades, even centuries ago.

Because YOU like econ more than you like sociology. if this was true, i would hear more people ask this question. everything is relative. i usually think he opposite way though. sociologists i think blame society because it is blame worthy. dont economists blame economy and society as well? poor dist. of wealth is usually blamed on the gov't. poverty blamed on corrupt govts.
