I'm doing a presentation with a group of my friends about the dangers of underage drinking to a bunch of sohpomores next Friday. We have a couple of ideas already, but does anyone know how to really capture attention, and get people to interact with you? Please help! Thanks!

OK here are a few things

Split the presentation up into 3 sections
Intro, middle, conclusion

start the Intro by TELLing the audience what you are going to tell them.
Then you TELL them (the middle)
Then you TELL them what you have told them
(TELL, TELL, TELL)

Try to keep information in 3's, the human mind can digest things easier in 3's/
Keep it short and simple, use positive language to get your point accross
For instance words like this:
Educate, create, inspire, imagaine
always keep it positive

You have to have lots of passion for your subject then your audience will feel that passion as well that .

You can say at the begining please feel free to ask questions at anytime during the presentation. or if you would prefer for them to leave questions until the end

Ask the audience some questions...like'how many of you drink at the weekends' etc get them involved

You are the biggest visual aid in the presenation, the audience will remember you more than any slide show. Use open body language, hand gestures, keep your feet slightly apart, walk around a little, when you move its important to stop before you move again SMILE SMILE SMILE maintain eye contact.
You can use something called the 'lighthouse effect' this is where you have eye contact with everyone in your audience for like one or two seconds. This obviously depends on the size of your audience.
wear clothes you are comfortable in and try not to have any change in pockets pens etc.

Prepare properly, get ot know your environament. get there in plenty of time make sure you have everyhing you need

you have to get out of your comfort zone, its good to rememebr that you are in charge.

At the start a really good thing to do is pause for instance

Good Morning..(Pause for a couple of seconds) My name is ....

Speak clearly and with enough volume try to avoid jargon

if you have any panflets give them out after the presenatation otherwise people will read them instead of listening to you.

Some good excercise to do before you start

Stand in a circle with you and your friends
Close your eyes
breath in thorugh your nose count to 6 breath out do this for a couple of minutes this will get oxygen in your system and relax you
Roll your shoulders and neck a couple of times and jump around a bit shake about a bit

Now stand around and start counting in your circle (you)1 (next person)2 etc etc as you continue make it louder and louder until you are screamimng
it sounds silly but it will get you excited and see how loud you can get your voice it will energise you as well.

practise as well try not to have a script if you have to use prompts cards

They are going to rememebr you more than any of the information so rememebr that try to get some shocking facts in there that they will remember.

Good luck and remember to enjoy yourself.

Sorry for my spelling but the spell checker wouldnt work :) good luck

Visuals,
Make the presentation,interactive-get people involved some how, Confidence,
Make eye contact with audience members,
Project your voice, with proper sound equipment
Have an outlined plan with what your going to say, don;t read a script
Memorize, or if not memorized have key markers that trigger your thoughts.
Make yourself presentable, dress for the part.
Power Point is great for presentations

Good Luck

Say something provocative, right off the bat, perhaps in the form of asking a question. Maybe like "I think a car should be considered a lethal weapon -- what about you?!"

Get some photos of accidents after a drunk driver hurt or killed someone -- stress how fast were they driving -- it doesn't take much speed to kill someone! If possible, include some photos of the human toll -- warn people that this may be upsetting.

Know your material inside and out; have your documentation prepared, and approach the presentation with confidence -- what you present, may save someone's life!!

I have a few strategies .. first whilst you begin the presentation tear a paper within the entrance of the category and ask a query .. Why I tear the paper ? you're going to uncover the reply within the presentation ? simply humorous it really works ... moment whilst you input the category and all of the pupils are sitting daybreak establishing to listen to your presentation do whatever with the sunshine transfer it on and off Twice in the event you desire . so we can make extra awareness to the presentation ...

Use powerpoint and start with the pics of fatalaties that are a direct result of drinking and driving. Know your material. If you know what your talking about and feel confident the less nervous you will be. GOOD LUCK!!!
