www.travelocity.com
www.airgorilla.com
www.tripadvisor.com
www.cheaptickets.com
farechase.yahoo.com
www.bargaintravel.com

Others tips include
~ Be flexible with your travel dates as different days are sometimes much cheaper than others.
~ Book at least two weeks ahead, if not three.
~Fly Mid-week rather than weekends
~ Use neighboring airports instead of big-time aiports
~ Always check the round-trip price even if you're flying one-way because it CAN be cheaper that way.
~ Of course, avoid busy holidays when you can.
And ,for U.S. to Europe, fly to London first since it is cheaper that way.

Forget trying to get cheap airfare on the internet, In the begginning you could get good deals on airfare over the internet because it was a fairly new business and everyone was trying to attract new customers by selling tickets at a reduced rate, However that just isnt true any more, it has become a conveniant way for people to purchase tickets without having to call around to travel agents and these online agents dont have to sale lower priced tickets any more to attract business.
You will find far better deals with local travel agents if you just take the time to call around and find the best deals. Travel agents have now lost a big part of there business to internet based agents so in turn they are now having to compete by offering lower airfare rates. I would try the smaller agency's first because they are most likely to be the ones with cheaper rates.

Be flexible with your travel dates. Also, after comparing on a site like Expedia to find the cheapest airfare, go directly to some of the airlines sites with the lowest ticket prices. Then it will be even cheaper. We always find that prices are cheapest when we book directly with the airline.

Are you using already using Hotwire?

If there is a deal, you will not know what is the airplane company doing the trip before you pay for ... but if you found that cheaper airfare ... it will be the one that you should choose.

sometimes prices are simply high no matter what you do...

Check each airline individually.

And, try alternate airports in the same area, sometimes it's alot cheaper to fly from an airport 20 miles away

Also, check one way tickets...sometimes it's cheaper to fly one way on one airline and back on another airline.

Finally, always check around the dates that you want to fly, sometimes flights are cheaper by up to $100 dollars flying one day earlier or later than you planned.

(Tuesday and Wednesday are usually cheaper days to fly on)

it may take some time, but you can really save some money

Probably depends on where you want to go, and if you are flexible in your dates. I always go with Orbitz first, but if you are looking for International or specific cities, other sites would be more helpful.
