When I was a teen, I had rather interesting taste: Dickens, Huxley, Fitzgerald, and Bronte were some of my favorites.
But, if you're looking for more contemporary books, I'd recommend the works of Lemony Snicket, Jeanne DuPrau, JK Rowling, Eion Colfer, Phillip Pullman, Christopher Paolini, Lois Duncan and Jack Finney.
