It is statistically possible: Mohammed Yousuf has scored 1788 runs and ten (if you count his 202 against England as two) centuries in 2006, whilst Ricky Ponting has scored 1249 runs and seven centuries. Therefore Ponting needs to score 540 runs and four centuries in a maximum of four innings (two at Perth and two in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne), whilst Mohammed Yousuf doesn't have any more Tests in this calendar year (Pakistan are only playing a one-day series against West Indies in December).

Ricky Ponting is 2 centuries and 539 runs behind the record of Mohd. Yusuf. There are only 2 Test Matches to be played by Australia this year, it will be difficult for Ricky Ponting to break the records of Mohd. Yusuf. However, if he continues with the same form and if luck is in his side he may be able to the 9 century mark set by Mohd. Yusuf.
