It will tell you the network. You could also look it up on an NPA-NXX table on the NANPA website.

u used to be able to tell a few years ago from the start of the number but u cant ne more cus people move networks but they keep the same number

go on the reverse phone number feature of www.whitepages.com it will tell you the network the phone number belongs to...since the number portability started there's no way you can actually be sure of where the phone number is from, however, you have an idea

Go to www.whitepages.com ... then click on Reverse Phone Lookup... if it's a cell phone it will tell you what network the phone is using.

Go to the yellowpages web site and enter their number (or address if the number doesn't work). It sometimes provides the network they are using in the details.
