I THINK UNLESS YOU ARE IN THE MEDICAL FIELD, AND KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT YOU SHOULD NOT TELL THIS POOR WOMEN HER BABY WILL OR WILL NOT BE OKAY. AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAD SUCH STUPID NASTY THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THIS GIRL, EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES, WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE HER, AND DID YOU NOT READ THE POST, IT SAID SHE DID THAT BEFORE SHE KNEW SHE WAS PREGNANT AND STOPPED AS SOON AS SHE KNEW. WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU SAY SUCH STUPIDLY CRUEL THINGS AS SOME OF THOSE POSTED? THERE ARE LOTS OF WOMEN WHO ARE PREGNANT AND DO NOT KNOW FOR MANY MONTHS, SO IT IS NOT LIKE SHE KNEW AND CONTINUED TO DRINK AND SMOKE. SO DO NOT JUDGE AND DO NOT ADD STRESS TO THIS GIRL BY TELLING HER THAT HER BABY WILL HAVE SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT. THE BEST ADVICE TO GIVE HER IS FOR HER TO SEE A DOCTOR AND DO THE BEST SHE CAN FOR HER BABY NOW THAT SHE KNOWS SHE IS HAVING ONE. WHY DO PEOPLE HAVE TO BE SO CRUEL TO OTHER PEOPLE. EVERYONE AT SOME POINT HAS MADE MISTAKES AND DONE THINGS THAT THEY SHOULDN'T. PEOPLE IN THE 60S DID NOT KNOW THE HARM THAT COULD BE DONE BY SMOKING AND DRINKING WHEN PREGNANT AND STILL MOST HAD HEALTHY BABIES, THE ANSWER IS YOU DO NOT KNOW UNLESS YOU ARE A DOCTOR. MY GOD BLESS HER AND THE BABY. SHE IS ALREADY A GOOD MOTHER, AS SOON AS SHE FOUND OUT SHE STARTED DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT FOR THE BABY.

Although not recommended a small amount of alcohol consumption during pregnancy shouldn't have much of an effect. However it depends on how much and what type of Alcohol was consumed. There are some women who swear a glass of wine or a bottle of beer each day a beneficial during pregnancy.
As for smocking I myself smoked right through my first pregnancy and the baby was perfectly healthy whereas with my second child I did not smoke and had complications during pregnancy.
If your friend is really concerned she should talk with her Dr. He/She will be able to clarify more.
I hope this helps.

Im sure the baby will be fine. Alot of people smoke while pregnant and everything turns out okay. Some people dong have any signs of being pregnant so thats prob why she did not know. As long as she stopped then there should be no prob make sure she talks to her doctor and tells them everything to. Remember a doctor is going to have a better answer then anyone on here. And your friend is not stupid like some people are saying. She did not know. Shes only human and child abuse charges cant be placed on her.

Great that she actually quit! There is medical proof that smoking can stunt growth ... the babies are smaller at birth and grow slowly afterward. Drinking ... why? It's been know for a long time the consuming alcohol in any quantity can be attributed to some birth defects. Even aspirin is unsafe during pregnancy. Encourage your friend to 'stay clean' during the remainder of her pregnancy ... for the sake of her baby!

More then likely yes. But the baby may be smaller then it should. My mom smoked the entire time she was pregnant with my brother and myself and we are just fine. I know that alot of women smoked before they realized that it was bad. Drinking, is a bit stranger. I know that fetile acohol syndrome would be the main concern, but I'm not sure if they would be able to determine if the baby has it. I think it affects different people differently.

High blood levels of glucose can cause several problems, including frequent urination, excessive thirst, hunger, fatigue, weight loss, and blurry vision. However, because type 2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all. How to treat diabetes naturally https://tr.im/dwJzV
Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
Fatigue
Nausea
Vomiting
Patients with type 1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.
Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:
Increased thirst
Increased urination
Increased appetite
Fatigue
Blurred vision
Slow-healing infections
Impotence in men
If you think you have diabetes i think you should have a checkup and speak with your doctor just in case.

Back in the days before everyone became so crazy and politically correct about every little thing, women used to smoke and drink during pregnancy without worrying about it at all. And the majority of those babies turned out just fine. Chances are, baby will be fine although now that she is aware of the pregnancy it is good that she has quit all of that.
Got this e-mail awhile back and it seems appropriate:
TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking .
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this. We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K. We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem. We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever. We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them! Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever! The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL! And YOU are one of them!
CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good and while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

The baby might be okay. How did she go 5 months without even thinking she could be pregnant. I don't understand. She'll just have to wait and see when she has the baby and if there is anything wrong with the baby and hopefully theres not but she'll have her stupid and childish ways to thank.

She really ought to talk to her doctor about this. I know drinking is bad early in the pregnancy but since she didn't drink a lot she might be okay and it seems like she didn't smoke a lot.
