Cleanup all the unwanted programs to begin with. Maybe you need more RAM. Defragment you hard disk a couple of times. Maybe use System Mechanic from http://www.iolo.com and cleanup the PC. Then it will run lightening fast.
Just curious, Why did you post this question under Basketball???

OK, this is sort of in the wrong category. If you have internet you may have a virus. Buy the latest Norton Anti Virus. Try deleting programs you don't need, too.

More memory might help too. I went up to 640, and it really helped.
