I always liked Oprah, but lately the show is just a boring drag. The other day I tuned in for the first time in ages, and she said that Caucasian woman like to be friends with their kids, but African American mothers know how to discipline. I thought that was WAY out of line. How dare she venture to think she knows what goes on in my head. What a stereotype? I think I'm done with her!

Yes, I believe she is. However, like most minorities, especially those who have experienced success in life, I'm sure that she believes herself to be above such things even though her actions seem to indicate otherwise.

I don't think Oprah is any more racist than anyone else in our world. Racism is a very pernicious thing--it's like yeast in dough--it gets into everything.

I think that white people need to be extra careful about calling people of color racist. Since racism in our country tends to benefit white people, we look a little ungracious, to say the least, if we criticize a person who has suffered from racism. (Remember when only a year or so ago, a French store wouldn't let her in? With all her billions of dollars, she is still not safe from the prejudices that go along with being a black woman.)

Lastly, I'll just mention that I grew up in a neighborhood that changed from white to black while my family lived there. It's my observation that the black mothers I knew were much more strict than my mom was.

I think it's more correct to say, "affluent white mothers". But, that's only a small percentage of Caucasian moms.

But, why segregate mothers by race? Why not say, "mothers that choose to be friends with their children, as opposed to, mothers that choose to discipline their kids". Why not include Asian women? Or women of Middle-Eastern cultures?

Why specifically "black and white" women?

Intentional or not, it was a racist comment. And it's a slap to the face of the affluent white women that (predominantly, I might add) comprise her audience. Obviously, they're too stupid (from the Botox injections, I suppose) to realize they've been insulted by their deity. It's funny if you think about it.

Sure sounds racist to me. At the very least it's a ridiculous generalization.

I'm sure the argument that African American mothers know how to discpline could be taken apart in a hurry with a few examples.

Oprah isn't racist. I am so tired of this word. Everyone is an equal and that is that! No skin color is better than the next. Racism and stereotyping is so played out! We all need to realize and life will be so so so much better!

No.. I actually think she has a preoccupation with white people. I am based inthe UK and every time I see her show she is kow-towing to her white guests - e.g Tom Cruise, Madonna, etc. she has even refused to interview some black celebrities onher show because they are rappers... so Madonna is a great role model is she...??
I definately do not think she is a racist.. she surrounds herself with white sicophants... so no way..

Not overtly but if you are a black person and know about the history and the injustice committed against your own race, it's very difficult to be unbias for most people. Oprah is a nice person but she is not Mother Teressa.
