WI is a half state. Got divorced there. You get half of his and he gets half of yours. Bills and money. So be careful. The one who starts procedures for the divorce will pay for a lawyer and court cost. In WI when you petition for divorce you will have a 120 day waitig period before you are seen by the court.
On the day you petition. All bills and money are seen as of that day. You will have mediation at the court to decide who gets and pays what and who is responsible for them (bills). Then you have to makesure you have all the bills in hand not only for your lawyer but also for the court to prove indebtednes. Or, payment of bills.
If you have no property or children, good. Less painful. If all you have is college bills easy. Since he is the bread winner and you aren't. You will have to ask the courts advice first. Then marrage councelling (HAAH). Talk to him first. Agree with things before you decide. If you can't work it out the State of WI has a divorce proceedure booklet you can get from the state.

what is a half state?
If you want a divorce, why wait? Do U have any kids? If you do then you will be entitled to child support based on his income and maybe alimony as well.
Why do you want a divorce? It's miserable. people judge you when you say ex-husband. They assume you can't get it together. Do all you can to fix it. I know from whence I speak. I am a recent divorcee and although it was totally necessary to save my soul, and sanity, it was so hard on my kids and hard on my physche.

Divorce does cost quite a bit but if you are truly unhappy don't drag it out until you have the money. Most courts will defer your payments, and I'm sure if you needed to you could make small minimal payments even if you have to borrow the money. Good luck!
