i have just bought a Intel core 2 duo E6600 and at the moment i have 1Gb of PC3200 at 400mhz. Will this work well with this processor?. Will there be a big performance increase if i get 1Gb of PC2-6400 at 800mhz?

the core 2 duo e6600 is excellent... i have one in one of my machines... i run it with 2 gig of ram... however it doesnt matter what clockspeed you pick with the 400Mhz... It will always, always, always default to the lower of the 2, so id recommend you save yourself a few quid and get the 400...

Well I have seen very few motherboards that will take the Core 2 Duo and DDR memory, which is what PC3200, so you need to make sure your motherboard will accept both. Anyway there would be a performance increase, but frankly you could stick with PC2-5400, it is a better buy for the price.

YES!! certainly. having lots of ram will run applications smoothly without glitches.BUT having faster ram will run them faster.

eg: you can run several apps at a time if u have 1gb ram but the time they take to load (games, winamp etc..) is considerably reduced if u have a fast ram since the read-write time is reduced.

i'd say u go for 800mhz. i have one myself and its really fast.

The E6600 is a Pentium twin midsection processor. it seems that that all processors listed in Skyline Engineering for this Emachines computing device have a FSB of 800MHz.. it really is what it helps. The E6600 has a FSB of 1066MHz. i am going to assert no, the computing device received't help it. wish it facilitates.

Have a look here at Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/
Crucial's system scan will tell you whether your system can take more RAM and which kind. I've used crucial at least three times and bought memory online without any problems.
