I have stayed loyal to Sony for a number of years by firstly buying the Play Station 1 and then the PS2. All of my games are formatted for Play Stations.
I previously chose the PS2 over the X-Box because I was used to the Sony control pads and the format many of the games for Play Station came in. I basically kept with the format I knew best.
However, my PS2 no longer. The Nintendo Wii looks and sounds amazing - out of this world! The PS3 surely is just like the previous Play Stations but with better graphics? With the exception of the next GTA game, won't all the new games for PS3 be very similar to those on the PS2?
Should I stick with what I know best or should I sell all my PS2 games and take a chance with Nintendo? Will the next GTA game be out on the Nintendo Wii as well as the PS3?

My reasoning is this: if you became a Grand Master on Mortal Kombat with the Nintendo Wii, wouldn't you be able to transfer those moves to real life, like the skills you learn in Gran Turismo are partly compatible with real-life driving?

I gave a similar answer to a similar question:
That totally depends on the kind of games you're playing. The Wii seems like it will be more kid-oriented, with Mario-type games and sports titles. The PS3 is best for RPGs, because no other console ever has good RPGs, that I've seen (I prefer the Final Fantasy types, I should add).
Having said that, the Wii is much cheaper, and I'm pretty stoked about the new Zelda game. I would buy a Wii now, and then wait it out until there are some really good games for the PS3. By then, the price will have dropped. You probably don't replay your old PS2 games that often anyway, right?

I would personally suggest the nintendo wii. Ps3 doesnn't have overelyy better graphics than the ps2. Also the blueray dvd player. Unless you willing to pay £30+ for a dvd i wouldn't suggest it. Also £360 at the minimum! And on top of that price £50 a game! Now the nintendo wii is cheaper(alot) and is more interactive and i think will probably be more fun. Okay it hasn't got the same graphics as the ps3 but they aren't exacly bad! At a price of £180 i think that it is much better value for money. Games will be cheaper opposed to th ps3.
I would personally buy the nintendo wii but I think that my view might be different to yours. If I was you I would test both out in the shop.

I got a Wii today and I would definitely recommend it, though I have only played Wii Sports so far. I've bought the first two playstations in the past, but - for me - what differentiates Nintendo consoles from the Playstations is that the Nintendo games are much more fun, original and innovative.
Also, as well as the hardware being cheaper, Nintendo have said that they will keep their own Wii games below $50 US, though what that means for UK retail prices remains to be seen.
Having said that, I'll consider getting a Playstatation 3 too, but maybe a while after launch when the price has come down a bit.
If you want to know anything in particular about the Wii then feel free to email me.

I won't tell you what to get, but keep this in mind:
Wii is cheaper and it amazing, yes, but it's hard to get at this point in time. I live in Pennsylvania and I have to get mine from Florida. PS3 does have better graphics and I'm a loyal Sony player also, but Sony won't get mad if you decide to buy the Wii. But since you only have PS games, PS3 sounds like a good option, but since you PS2 is done, you can buy another one. It would be weird that way though. Both of them are good options.

I would go with the PS3. That way you can use your current games. The Wii is cool with the motion sensors and all, but I was looking at one at Best Buy last night and the graphics aren't nearly as good. I think as a whole it would be a step backwards.

first off. I USED TO LOVE SONY/PLAYSTATION. but then the price raise to 600 dollars. the 500 dollar doesnt come with wifi and a smaller hard drive and no sd slots, but i went with the wii. like the ps3, the wii has motion sensor technology, but on top of that it has pointing sensors and twisting sensor and speed sensor (all in one). but it depends on wat games you want. if u want shooters, and mgs4, then go for ps3. if u want mario and super smash bros go for the wii. the ps3 can play ps2 games but i heard it is having troubles. the wii can play gamecube and you can download old games from nes, snes and n64. if u like sitting down while playing, get the ps3. if u want a next generation player, get ps3 its blue ray. if u want an HD gaming system WITH AMAZING GRAPHICS get the ps3. obviously u can still get better graphics with a ps3. but i hope this helps. I have a wii because the ps3 if too expensive. and o ya wii graphics. depends on game. ranges from gamecube to xbox (original graphics), but some games like mario and wii sports u dont need the graphics cuz its like animation. and o ya ps3 does have hdmi but not included and wii has a better cable that supports 480p but it doesnt come with it either. wii comes with wii sports

The PS3 is just all they hadn't released on the ps2 silly hoe they released two, this wii is fress blood i'd recommend that, though i have no professional advisors backing me, there will always be the PS4, when does nintendo get a break cornering a market like this. the first consoles were released by them, i personally trust their experience, can't get one this year but let us know how you get on.

The Nintendo Wii is cheaper and has some really virtual sports games. You'll be hard pressed to get either before Christmas though.
