When I was a kid I read a book that was all about the science and mythology about dragons. They even said how a biological bieng could breath fire. There was also a section that described a dragon as a "flying brick" and explained how it is not by the wings alone that a dragon flies.
Does anybody know the title and author?

The Flight of Dragons. I don't know the author offhand, but it's a very good look at the science behind dragons.

The one thing they didn't cover satisfactorily is how a dragon can have six limbs when all other creatures on Earth have four. This suggests to me that dragons weren't originally from here.

it is not "The Smallest Dragonboy" with the aid of Anne McCaffrey, whether it fairly is a sturdy short tale modern in "Get Off the Unicorn." i'm particularly confident it is not Eragon. His vacationing companion became into male, the dragon became into lady. you ought to verify to work out no remember if that's "Joust" with the aid of Mercedes Lackey. it may be powerful if we knew if "center college" became into 3 years in the past or 30. stable luck!
