I'm helping a friend compile a bibliography of books and comics that use characters and/or themes from ancient Greek and Roman myth. Anyone know any? So far all I can think of is Sandman.

Hercules is a Marvel character who was a long time Avenger and also a member of the short lived Champions. There were an entire race of beings in the Marvel Universe called the Titans. The two that come to mind right off are Thanos and Eros. There's a newer character being introduced into the Xmen lore named Vulcan, brother of Cyclops and Havok. He claims to have chosen the name Vulcan from his favorite Roman myth.

Here is a link to a very thorough site, where you will see that practically every name from Greek mythology has been used in Marvel comics. Hope this is helpful

P.S. to the uninformed... Thor, Loki, Odin et al. are gods from Norse mythology, not Greek or Roman

There have been a number of Greco-Roman heroes based on ancient gods, etc. Hercules is one of them; at least 3 different companies have used him. Marvel has an ongoing Hercules character; in the 1960's, DC used to have Superboy fly back into the past and meet Hercules (sometimes Samson as well) and Gold Key (IIRC) had a hercules character whose title didn't last long.

Go to Toonopedia and look through the entries for names that correspond to mythological characters. They have loads of information. Good luck!

hmmmmm i'd say the charecters from The New Titans on DC Comics and The Incredible Hulk once was a part of a group called The Pantheon made up of supposed Greek and Roman Dieties back when he got the Hulk Rage under control and could remain with the mind of Bruce Banner in his Green Salad form as it's jokingly called

The sites below may help. Also, The Illiad and the Odyssey (Epic Poems written by the Greek writer Homer) If you type those into the search bar on the site below you will probably find quite a few titles based on those. I typed in Odyssey and it gave me the second link's info. The Odyssey (1997) says it is a good adaptation of the Epic poem. If you just type in things in the tool bar on IMDb (the site I linked you to) such as Titans, gods, Hercules, Greek myths, etc. you should get a lot of title, but make sure you review them to make sure they say they are based on greek things because things like Remember the Titans isn't Greek, but it contains Titans. There was a movie Helen of Troy made and a movie called Troy also. I typed in Helen of Troy and gave you the link to that page. The descriptions of the links are below the links themselves. I hope this helps.

Marvel Comics has lots... Hercules (sp?) was an Avenger in the 80s & 90s... and of course the Roman god Thor has his own book with other mythological charactors such as Odin and Loki... look up Thor an marvel.com, you'll find lots.
