I have an old 18Volt Craftsman drill and the battery charger is dead. I tried to get it replaced at Sears but of course they dont have one to replace it. They sent me to their repair center and placed an order. A month and still nothing. I went back there and they said another month, maybe.
I can't wait. Someone else must make these things, but who?

Help?

Craftsman doesn't warrantee all their tools, mainly just hand tools. Electrical and electronic are different.

You might be out of luck...there are many 18V manufacturers out there, but there appears to be no standard on these batteries. So, you may not be able to use 18V chargers from various manufacturers independently -- they simply will not fit in most other chargers. I had the SAME problem with my 12V Craftsman drill (older model) and finally found a Dewalt charger that would work, but it took a lot of time to research...

I had the exact same problem once and I had to end up buying another drill. Most power tool manufacturers are really bad about updating their tools so often that the parts become obsolete fairly quickly. Some brands, such as Makita, Bosch and Dewalt are good at keeping older batteries and chargers in stock for at least several years. Craftsman, is by far the worse. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting on your new charger to show up soon. I'm not aware of any other company that offers a compatable charger either. Too bad Sears replacement policy doesn't apply to power tools.

Get on Ebay, go to Home and Garden category, sub category power tools, search for 18V Craftsman Batteries and Chargers. If there are any around, that will be the easiest place to find them at a reasonable cost.

I don't know where you live, but I live in Springfield Mo. We have a company in town that makes battery packs to order. I think it's called Batteries Plus. They will see what you need and combine re-chargeable batteries to make what you need and put them in a heavy plastic shell. If there's one here there should be some in other places. Start with the yellow pages. don't be afraid to call a place and ask them if they know where this can be done.

If you know the output voltage and amps or mili amps, you might be able to buy a replacement transformer for your old charger from Radio Shack. I have done this before. But you have to know what you are doing.
