You'll never completely rid yourself of negative thinking, but I had success in improving in this area with a Dale Carnegie class. Changed my life. You can start by reading "How to win friends and influence people". If you can get your work to pay for it, or if you can afford it yourself, go to DC class!
Of course, if you're negative all the time, it might be depression. In that case, seek therapy.

First get to "neutral": think about what you're gaining by being negative (probably not much) and what you'd gain by not being negative (more efficiency, less time spent on worrying, less backache, etc.

Did you ever drive a car with manual shift instead of automatic transmission?

Think of putting in the clutch and shifting into low gear. Ease into positive. Little bit better? Little more fun. Maybe even a giggle! Ahhhh. You'll want more. Shift into second. And so on...

My mother passed away not too long ago and her favorite sayings were: There's always a light at the end of the tunnel, Every cloud has a silver lining, and God may tighten, but never chokes. I always have one of the above sayings in my head whenever I'm down or depressed and I try to look at the brighter side.

i learned this trick from a hypnotist who told me to repeat the words I want to hypnotize myself with, 10 times before going to sleep at night.
In training the brain to be positive, the brain does not recognize negative words. So in order to be positive you must free your thinking of any of them.
For instance: I had to say "I am free of smoking cigarettes," to train my brain to quit the need.
Rather than I will not smoke any longer.
Always remove negative words and only use positive ones.
Be free of words like not, can't, unable, quit, won't, shouldn't.
Replace with only positives and you'll train your brain! Cool HUH?
