Went to the Doctors today because I have been sick ....able to view the notes from the appointment at work, since I work for the same hospital. Doctor wrote, "Alert, Friendly, Overweight, no acute distress"...am I too worried that in an urgent care appointment, he noted overweight, and I didn't even get weighed? I'm really sensitive to this....but have been dieting and exercising and have lost 10 lbs in 2 months. Everyone says, and I believe I don't look fat at all...am I just over reacting or does the MD have to write that?

I had a similar situation. I went to my family doctor for a soar throat and was told that I needed to go on a diet. She is also my mom's doctor and my mom recently lost a lot of weight and went from a 14 to a 8. I felt like she was comparing me to my mom. I am 5'7 and weigh 155 and she gave me a diet plan. I was hurt and disgusted. It made me want to cry. I think it is out of line how some doctors handle their patients care. My boyfriend told me that he loved me the way I am and the doctor was just jealous because she is extremely overweight. It is funny how a doctor can be overweight, but they want to tell you to lose some. Just be happy with yourself. If you are beautiful on the inside you are beautiful on the outside no matter what size. Good job on losing the 10 lbs it is a hard process, I know because I used to weigh 180 about a year ago. Keep up the good work.

Your a little judgemental. Yes a doctor has to list things in his chart. Just think next time you go in and are a "screaming sexy baby" tone and ripped. He will note "healthy and beautiful" keep up the good work. Believe in yourself in leads to greater happiness.

I used to know a woman who transcribed doctors notes for a living. While not revealing anyones personal info she told me that they note many details, for instance, in one case the doctor wrote that the patient smelled ( B O ). If I were you I wouldn't let it concern me, after all, you are working on it, right?

If you are comfortable with yourself that's what matters most! Trust me, working in the medical feild sometimes we have to write things in patient charts according to standards set by the government and such.... To see if the doc is following the standards set for medical staff, which would be the BMI (body mass index). . you can check this yourself by inputing your data at

http://www.bariatricedge.com/dtcf/pages/bmi_calculator.htm?SOURCE=GOOG&KEYWORD=p

If the doc was out of line it is your chart, you have the right to ask for copies and dispute any information you see. But again, what really matters is that you are happy with you.

It sounds like he was making an observation (no offense). Is it possible that weigth might have played a factor in your visit to urgent care?

Everyone has the right to look at their own medical record, so you could always confront him..but what would it solve?

Can you respond and tell us your height/weight/and bone structure (are you small boned, big boned, in the middle)

Also, do you know what percentage of body fat/muscle you have?

Otherwise google BMI or Body Mass Index and look for a chart that will help you!

Don't worry about it, girl. You have been working hard and if you feel good and are continuing to stay in shape then don't worry about it.
