It's the length of the variable dimension.
The other two are fixed or within limits

Say, it's the dimension of an 8m beam with 3.5x2.6m cross section, the cost would be 256x8

Its just a metre in a straight line, so you would get one metre length for £256

That means that a product (such as rope or chain) is sold by its length in meters. Linear is just a fancy word for length.

if u measured a room in linear it would be the length all around all four walls in a straight line - ie a border tile is measured in this way
