Go to the HP solution center and then go to printer settings, then go to toolbox. In the toolbox there is a tabs for ink levels.
Or if the toolbox is on the desktop click on that and go to ink levels.

if you have the HP solution center on your desktop go to that and go to printer settings and click toolbox. In toolbox there are tabs on the top and in printer maintence or something like that there is a tab for estimated ink levels. click on that and it will say.
Do that with the printer on and connected to the computer.

If it's a genuine HP cartridge, esp. black ink, just take it out and look, as usually it's transparent.
The color cart's are a bit more difficult, but usually hold it up to the light will give you a clue how much it's got left.
