I'm NOT talking about employment for which they're not qualified. I mean -- if you knew of a job opening and knew your friend was looking and probably qualified, wouldn't you at least let your friend know that he/she should apply?

Why are ANY of you friends with someone untrustworthy??? Obviously, there's an issue here with what some of you all consider "friendship" to be.

If I knew my friend would be able to fill the position and do a fine job, Yes I would help him/her out by putting a word in with the person needing help.
If it were one of those friends that were not very trustworthy than that would make both of us look unreliable with the employer, Sorry to say no. The thing is do you trust this person enough to give your word for them?

I do understand your dilema. When you refer another to a job position, your integrity is on the line.

If they screw up it looks bad on you.

On the other hand if this is a person in which you have total confidence...Why the heck not!

That's what friends do. They help each other out

If I "knew" thier past work history, I would consider doing so...

Provided that they are always on time, and a good worker, because any "slack" on thier part, will reflect badly on you!

Also, if "you" are not a fine example of an employee, the boss may not even consider your friend, so, it goes both ways...

I have had friends that I recommended to my work, but they bombed out at the interview process. This kinda made me look bad, so I really don't do that anymore. If they apply on their own, then thats OK.

Only if the person is well-qualified.

I'm not going to tell my inexperienced friend about a management position if they don't have proven, solid management experience.

Yes, I would tell them of the opportunity, but I wouldn't stick my neck out to convince anyone to hire them. I would let them decide if the job opportunity was right for themselves.

Yes your just being a friend to them looking out for them. But don't get pissed that they don't act on the job. Bottomline it is up to them.

I would, if you are willing to attact your name to that person. Referrals are usually the best candidates for companies, because if you are willing to put your name on them, says alot

Yes, I think so. They may even be eligible for some sort of bonus if their friend gets hired.
