How can we bring back the idea that natural beauty is what it's all about? Why do so many people hate looking in the mirror?

Media has such a huge effect when there isn't a strong guiding force in a kid's life. A child's parents should instill the idea of natural beauty. The biggest influence in a child's life should be his/her parents or whoever else helps in raising that child not whats on tv. I realize thats easier said that done though.

The media has such an influence because we let it. Natural beauty is not seen and with cosmetic surgery today people look at what they can approve. I am just starting to become used to my body because I have someone in my life who does not see what is wrong but what is right about it. People do not like looking at what they consider imperfection. The idea of what is engrained would take a long time to break and to let natural beauty shine again as it did before Twiggy hit the runways in the 1960's.

Because its everywhere you have to be a certain weight and you have to wear certain clothes , a certain hair do , the right car , everything a certain nose , its terrible . Everyone should be them selves . When they look in the mirror they dont see the movie star they dont see the model they have seen on the tube . Im all for healthy , but these things cant get to extream , and when you see most of these beautiful people , if they took off all the phoney stuff well , and if you think about it they dont even fix their own hair , or dress them selves half the time , or put their own make up on , so I do feel this is not a good thing

iceman is right the parents should be the most influencial part of the childs life, and here it comes, BUT todays society wants to put that responsibility on someone or something else.

The question should be Why wont people accept responsibility today? Always putting the blame somewhere else. The media, video games, teachers etc. Heaven forbid a parent ever except responsibility for being a parent and raising the child with morals and self esteem.

Media has always had an influence on youth. Society allows it and it shows in our actions, we are the ones that continue to allow media to sell items through sex appeal if it wasn't working then they would stop. Media aside self image should be taught at home, then maybe the media would be ignored.

Its all an illusion. The best thing to do is for people to raise there children right. Raise them so they value the right things in people. Maybe if enough people do society will turn around soon.
